Hiding text by using Background Color

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi All,

i am not sure if this is an old trick but i will share anyways..for certain texts in my posts,if i color it in background color (bg is white so i made it white), they obviously dont appear to viewers but can still appear in search engines..
but ofcourse when the text is selected by someone to copy it will appear..heck..i dont care keeping the larger audience this works for me.this works especially well when i want to add additional “search engine query” to my posts.
I have used it in my latest post :)

Careful. SEO techniques such as hidden text are frowned on by WordPress.com staff and can put your blog at risk of deletion.

Also: take it from a total stat whore: they just do not work very well. They’re very 1992.

oops..i dint know its frowed :( was too excited to share the tip, now..i wont make it a habit..mostly the title of my posts do the trick..so wldnt worry too much.

thanks anyways :) being new around here good to know the Posting Etiquette.

Your hits won’t miss it after a certain level. I did a post using all the SEO keyword stuff and so on and quite frankly Google got pissed off at me and sandboxed it (dumped it down in the search results, when it was #3 at one time). Categorize properly and post regularly and you’ll grow your blog far beyond where techniques like those SEO things could have taken you.

Hiding text is, as raincoaster says, not a wise thing to do.

as long as it’s not SEO stuff, you can use it for the punchlines to jokes or answers to a quiz :D

Also, hidden dots (or anything) are one of the few full-proof ways to preserve indents and other intra-line spacings in texts that require them (e.g. poetry).

the best and proper full-proof way to PREserve indents and other spacings is the HTML ‘PRE‘ element.
