Hiding the Google sitemaps verification page from everyone

I have searched the FAQs, the Support boards and the Forum and can’t find an answer to this.

I installed Google sitemaps and when done I followed the instructions for hiding the Google verification page from the navigation bar it worked, or at least I think it did. The Google page is no longer on the title bar, so that’s good. But when you click on the parent link, you can see the child page, which is the Google verification page. Obviously I don’t want anyone seeing this, but people have been clicking on it. I would like it to be hidden completely, with no one able to find it.

Have I done the hiding page technique incorrectly or is this the way it is? Hiding it on the Page widget worked. If you want to check it, the Google link is under the “jeffrey” page.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I can’t link my blog name to my user name – the page keeps blanking out.

    The blog is http://jeffreydeanmorganunlimited.com

If you hide it completely, then Google cannot find it and they reverify your site on a regular basis. If they don’t find the verification file, they then put your indexing on hold until you again put the page up and they again go through the verification process.

It’s a pain to have it show up, but that is the way it has to be right now.

I found that the best way is make it a post not a page, and date it way back, so it will appear as my very first post. Normally, people browsing a blog will not bother to look that far back, especially once the blog has gained a considerable number of posts.

Thanks to both of you for your assistance. I managed to get this to work. It does verify if you post the Google verification page as a post.

I will mark this as resolved.
