Hiding the 'likes'
-
hey! I need some help. I am using the spectrum theme and would like to hide my likes but still maintain the option for one to like my post. The gravatars are being to take over space. Any ideas on what to do?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Wee cannot get rid of the gravatars displaying under the like button at the end of our posts without disabling “likes”.
-
Ok…could I put my home page in summary thereby hiding the likes…any other way apart from using the ‘more’ button which only cuts part of the article and still shows the gravatar likes?

If you go into settings>sharing and under ‘WordPress.com likes are’ tick the circle for ‘Turned on per post’. That will remove the like Gravatars that are displayed, but people can still like the post from the Reader etc. They just won’t be displayed on your blog. Seems like that is what you want.

and still shows the gravatar likes?
I don’t display any of the sharing buttons on the excerpts on my front page. I disabled this: “Front Page, Archive Pages, and Search Results” for “Show buttons on” setting and selected only
– Posts
– PagesThat cleaned up the appearance on my front page. (I’m a minmalist who is using fewer and fewer widgets. )

@thegiddygoat yeah, that’s a rough idea of what I want…the likes to be hidden…but when one clicks on ‘leave a reply’ all the likes will be revealed, something like that. I’m asking because I have seen this on different blogs.
-
My friend does it. We can all still like the posts and she gets the notifications, but they don’t display on her blog. Try it out :)
-
Oh they won’t appear at any time though if you click leave a reply!!! You’re asking too much!!

@thegiddygoat
I’m sorely tempted to use “Turned on per post” as well. I don’t want my blog to like a comic book or a defunct myspaces site. Yes, I’m quickly becoming curmudgeonly. -
@timethief The showing likes is exactly that ‘show’!! and you curmudgeonly? That’s ok i’m Welsh, we’re all like tha
-
-
@misssylvee Because that’s not how it works. The likes are either on or off. You can’t have both.
-
Sorry @timethief my writing got cut off. Now you’ll never know what i was going to say!!
-
ok…so is it that my spectrum theme doesn’t support showing my posts in summary because other themes do, e.g greyzed…don’t they?
-
The lovely timethief will have to answer that one, misssylvee, as i’m clueless on what you actually want. Sorry love i did my best to explain.
-
sorry, the questions are kinda all over the place! Thank you though. I guess, I’ll maintain the blog as it is. thanks again
-
Just wait and see if timethief can help more. She’s the clever one, i’m just a Giddy Goat :)
-
Actually I have just checked out @timethief’s blog …when you click on continue reading…it not only shows the rest of the post but the likes too…That is what I want on my blog. I hope it’s clear now :)
