hiding the reply box
-
After following help on removing the reply box on the bottom of my pages I find for some reason I’m unable to remove it from some of the pages.
Ultimately, what I would like to do is create a single page with a reply box just for comments and links to other possible web sites. Would this be possible?

Hi Derek!
You should be able to hide the Reply box by disabling comments as explained here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/#enabledisable-comments
Can you point me to a page where you’re having trouble removing the comment box?

Yep! That’s definitely possible. Provided the comments are enabled for a page, you should see a comment box on that page. Then, you can enter whatever text you would like within the context of the page.

Hi Jeremy,
The pages I’m having trouble with are;
Country Gallery , http://shapirofineart.com/hms-warspite/ and http://shapirofineart.com/contact/ .
Once I set the page purely for comments and links to other sites, am I right in thinking that I can copy and paste past comments to the new page?

Hi!
For the following pages, you’ll need to click on the “Edit” link for the page and then disable comments via the Discussion box:
http://shapirofineart.com/hms-warspite/
These instructions lay out the steps to do that!

I just want to make sure I’m understanding what you’re looking to do. Are you trying to setup one page that holds the comments for your entire blog with links to each blog post? If so, there isn’t a great way to set this up. Comments are linked to individual pages so you can’t setup one large page that houses individual comments and links to the actual pages. Could you clarify what you’re looking to do?

Hi,
Yes, I have disabled the comments on the said pages as I did with the other pages where I have done away with the reply box, but for some reason the reply box remains. What I’m trying to do is keep all comments and any links to other websites in one place on a separate page. I don’t want comments and reply box’s interfering with the look of my site, and If this is possible can I not create a link from the comment to the page.

Hi,
Comments were still enabled for the following pages:
http://shapirofineart.com/hms-warspite/
I went ahead and disabled comments for you so the comment box shouldn’t be there any longer.

Just to clarify, when someone wants to comment on an individual post, you want that comment to be displayed elsewhere (on a separate “Comment” page). Then, within the comment section on your actual post, you would just have a link to the overall comments page? Is that correct?
That isn’t possible at WordPress.com as comments are associated with a particular page or post address. It isn’t possible to archive all comments under one particular page and hide them from the actual page where the comment was made.

I did disable the comments on those pages and don’t understand why the box wasn’t cleared, however, thanks for that.
It would seem that I’m not able to do what I would like with the comments on a separate page.
Could you explain what the benefit is in having comments displayed on my blog in the first place and then I will have to think about re displaying the comment box, which I don’t really want to do.

This is really a decision that is up to you. Comments can provide a great place for discussion for your readers. It’s a way of hearing and reflecting upon opinions from your readers. We have some more thoughts on comments here:
However, some individuals elect to have those conversations elsewhere (Facebook for instance). It’s really up to you!
