Hiding Widgets and Remove Areas
-
I am on a free plan and using the theme Sela. I want to remove the content area on a static front page. I can’t see a way of doing this without CSS. I also want to hide a widget area if there is no text in there.
If I need to change themes, please let me know which ones are good.

Hi, @r13rose,
Happy to assist.
I am on a free plan and using the theme Sela.
I took a look at sneekygeek.wordpress.com. I do not see the theme Sela on it. Is this the site you are working with or is it another?
I am wondering if you already decided to switch themes(?).

For Sela, you have different page options (Full width, Grid or Default)
See Sela’s doc page for details on how to change that: https://wordpress.com/theme/sela/cmtestingweb.wordpress.comI also want to hide a widget area if there is no text in there.
To remove a widget that has no text, you may do this at the widget level.

Theme change is highly subjective. I recommend scrolling through them, and searching by the features that are most important to you: https://wordpress.com/themes
If I misunderstood any (or all) of your request, please let me know. I hope this helps.
