Highwind Theme Header Cropping Issues

Hello, I recently chose the highwind theme for one of my blogs. I really like the look and design but there is one thing that is bothering me a ton. So, when uploading a custom header, it says an image that is 2500 x 413 px will be used as is. Though that is not necessarily the case. I created an image of those dimensions and for some reason it still crops out about two thirds of the image on both ends and some on the top. The image is not pixelated or scaled improperly, but merely cropped. Interestingly, when you zoom the entire page out (in my case, using my fingers on the tracking pad of my mac), more and more of the image is revealed. This makes me wonder if on larger monitors, more of the header is revealed (I have yet to try). So I really like the new theme, but this header issue is a bit absurd and if I cannot resolve it and showcase my full header, I will regrettably need to switch themes. I have read that multiple other people have had this same issue on this theme so if anyone can please help me or possibly send this issue to the theme developers, it would be so greatly appreciated. Other than that, it is a nice new theme. Thanks for the Service.

    Hi there,

When you use the Highwind theme, the amount of the header image you see will depend on your screen size. If your header image is 2500 pixels wide and 413 pixels high, Highwind will use the image as it is — but if your screen is less than 2500 pixels wide, you will only see the center part of that header image. (The theme won’t resize the header image; it will just show the part of the image that fits on the screen.)

If you prefer a smaller image in your header, you can upload a logo instead. In Highwind, the recommended logo size is 128×128 pixels. You can add a logo by going to Appearance > Customize > Theme Options and uploading a logo image there.

If those header options don’t work for you, I recommend trying out a different theme. Some other themes I like with similar features are Comet, Grisaille, and Truly Minimal.

Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this. :)

Thank you, thats kind of what I imagined. I do like the other themes you suggested but what really drew me to the Highwind theme was the full-width header (stretching from one side to another of the screen) I find that the full-width header gives a more professional vibe to the site and less of a bloggy feel than the floating rectangle header. Though I guess that cropping issue comes with the territory of full-width anything. So my question now is, is there another free wordpress theme that offers a full length header image, or do I have to go into the css and change it to get the full-width look I desire? Thanks so much Rachel for your help!

Off the top of my head, the only other free themes with a full-width header I can think of are Superhero and Eventbrite Single Event. However, you can browse all the free themes that include custom headers here:

    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/custom-header/?sort=free

You can browse the list to see what themes have the kind of header you like. You can also narrow down that list (there’s over 100 of them!) by selecting other features you want in your theme, to see what’s possible. :)
