HIJACKED ACCOUNT??
-
Hello!
Some time ago (ie. 2 years or more) I created a WordPress account and then forgot about it. Well, not exactly forgot about it but life happened and I didn’t bother doing anything with it the way I had intended to originally. Fast forward to the present, I decided to once again have a go creating the blog of my dreams when I’ve forgotten my password. I tried resetting it but I have not received any notifications in my emails to reset. I then went about creating a new account thinking that perhaps my old one was deleted, however upon the completion of said new account I then noticed that WordPress would not allow me to name my account the way I wanted to. It put a ‘com’ at the end of my account name as in namecom.wordpress.com. This led me to believe that there was already an existing account with my name (my old account) however, when I googled my original account name and found it, there was an about page that I had not created. Could it have been hijacked?
Is there any way that I can find out if this was my old account?
Cheers and kind regards,
Leila Dee xThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The original account I created was theliberatedhousewife.wordpress.com.
Once I can sort this mess out and reclaim my original account, I wish to close the newly created theliberatedhousewifecom.wordpress.com and transfer to WordPress.org. I have purchased a theme that I wish to use.
Cheers,

Hi Leila,
theliberatedhousewife.wordpress.com is owned by another WordPress.com account (housewife50) and there have been no password resets in the last couple of months.
Please log out of leiladeetlh from the My Profile page, then log back in with the username housewife50 instead.
I tried resetting it but I have not received any notifications in my emails to reset.
You’ll want to make sure you are checking the email address connected to the other account (not leiladeetlh). I also recommend checking the spam folder in that email account in case the password reset email has gone there.
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the reply!
I tried logging in under the housewife50 username and then tried resetting the password and had no luck with either. I didn’t receive any emails regarding the password reset in any two of the possible email accounts that it would have been linked with.
The set up of the home page and the “about me” tab is definitely not my work either so not sure what is going on? Someone else obviously has this account now.
Can I just delete my newly created theliberatedhousewifecom.wordpress.com account or just transfer across to WordPress.org? Whatever will be easiest.
I own a few domains attached to this name and have purchased a WordPress theme to set up so I’m ready to go! I just have to settle with a hosting provider.
Cheers x

The housewife50 account is still using the original email address with which it was created, and our logs show the password reset email was successfully delivered.
If you did not receive it, it means you no longer have access to the correct email address. In that case the only way to regain access to that site is via our account recovery process, here:
The set up of the home page and the “about me” tab is definitely not my work either so not sure what is going on? Someone else obviously has this account now.
The About page on https://theliberatedhousewife.wordpress.com/ was published in March 2014, and has not been changed since. The site itself, and the housewife50 account that owns it, was also created at the same time.
There is nothing to suggest that any change of ownership has ever happened to that site or account.
If the content on that page is not yours, then the more likely explanation is that you’re misremembering the address of the site you created before.

theliberatedhousewifecom.wordpress.com is a site, not an account. leiladeetlh is the account that owns that site.
You cannot transfer a site to WordPress.org, as WordPress.org is not a hosting provider like WordPress.com. WordPress.org is the website where the WordPress community works on the open source WordPres software.
If you want to create a site with that version of WordPress instead, you need to buy hosting and a domain from a hosting provider like Bluehost or Pressable, install the WordPress software there, and then build your site. You cannot use a WordPress.com address like theliberatedhousewifecom.wordpress.com for a self-hosted WordPress website, and as your site at theliberatedhousewifecom.wordpress.com is completely empty at the moment, there’s nothing else to transfer.
If you want to delete this WordPress.com site you can do so from My Site ->Settings, but the other site, theliberatedhousewife.wordpress.com, can only be deleted by someone logged into the housewife50 account.

Okayyyy…kinda makes more sense now!
Maybe I thought I created theliberatedhousewife.wordpress.com site as I’ve had this name and concept for some years now and have parked domains under the same now for just as long. I remember creating a WordPress.com site some years back and thought this was it but it obviously isn’t! Wow…wonder what it is then?!!
Anyhow thanks for clearing all this up. I will delete this account and do something using WordPress.org.
Cheers,

I’m afraid I can’t help with that bit :)
If you have any other email addresses you might have used for a WordPress.com account that might help us find your old site, but otherwise, without the site address, there’s not much we can do.
