Hijacked to the new post editor, with no evident link to the classic editor
-
I’m aware that members have been complaining about being transported to the new editor, the “improved posting experience,” for months. However, my experience until recently was that I only arrived at the new editor once per day, and after switching to the classic editor it would remain so until after midnight on the following day, or until I logged out and logged in again on the same day. Since I typically remained logged in almost constantly, it wasn’t terribly inconvenient.
About a week or so ago I noticed that the redirects to the new editor began happening more frequently. Then a few days ago I discovered that any time I used an edit link on a visible post or page it would open the article in the new editor, AND the new editor no longer has a link to the classic editor. That’s bad news. It means to reach the classic editor for any post one must now access it via dashboard > Posts > All Posts, with the addition of a title search or date filter, perhaps, if the post is not among those recently published.
So instead of a easy two click procedure to open the editor: 1.) right click, 2.) open in new private window option which takes about a second, WP has placed barriers and hurdles in front of the classic post editor which are effectively nothing but time wasters. The result is that it frequently take 20 or 30 times longer to reach the editor which used to be two simple clicks away.
To WordPress:
Please include a link in the new editor to the classic editor.
Please allow us to open a post or page editor to the classic editor with the “edit” link on the visible article. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please Reinstate the Option of Choice to Use the Old Publishing Format

Well, I just got “hijacked” for the first time too. Infuriating. Looks like despite the promise to keep the classic editor, WP is determined to phase it out and force us to use the new one. I have the classic editor bookmarked for one-click access when I want to start a new post. But that won’t help when I want to edit an existing post. Now I have to click through that insulting, infantile Beep Beep Baloney again.

We have multple threads on the missing classic editor link which Staff removed from our dashbaords. Click the tags in the sidebar please.

Exactly! Sing it loud and clear here sisters and brothers https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/6?replies=167

Thankfully, tpenguinltg has made a user script (must have GreaseMonkey or another program like it) to install to your browser to redirect to the classic editor when editing older posts or making a new post. This is not cookie dependent, so it’s better than what WP was giving us as an option to use prior to them eliminating it.
-
@tt Mea culpa. My post was a knee-jerk reaction and that went to the first related thread I saw.
@dandelionsalad Thanks for saving me from the agony of reading through 6 pages of posts. I’ll give this a shot and see if I can figure it out.
-
@dandelionsalad It worked! Piece of cake. I already had Tampermonkey installed for something else. Thanks again.
-
This situation is beyond belief. Penguins creating grease monkey scripts so we can restore the classic editor link that Staff removed from the new editor. Oy vey!
-
Lol, Timethief.
Great, glad it worked for you, too.
All you have to do is install it using Greasemonkey (Firefox) or something similar on other browsers. It works perfectly and better than the cookie dependent one that WP previously used.

The Classic Editor will continue to exist in wp-admin. We know some users prefer to use this editor, so we want you to have access to it, instead of phasing it out with the new version of the Dashboard. However, a link to the Classic Editor will not return to the New Editor.
