Hiring a WordPress designer

    Hello…

I have an eCommerce store that I built using the Yahoo Stores editor. It gives me a great deal of control over the look and feel of the site. Most of it I designed, but I did need to hire a programmer to help me with some of the integration.

I’m looking to do the same thing with WordPress (obviously without the store functionality). Yahoo posts a long list of development partners who help customers with all manner of website customization. I don’t see any such listing here on WordPress.

Would anybody be able to direct me towards developers familiar with some of the backend customization who might be able to help translate some of my ideas to the published page?

Thanx in advance for your time…

    …Dave

    offthestriplvn,
I would suggest that for e-commerce and back-end customization you’d be best off with wordpress.ORG.
wp.Com is not set up for advertising and sales:

Sorry if my Yahoo Stores analogy was misleading, but I’m not looking to do any type of advertising and sales through WordPress. I simply presented that as a model of what I was used to – part me, part someone I’d need to pay for help.

I know WordPress has some extensibility, but I’d like to explore working with a developer of some kind to help customize the look of the site. Perhaps they might tell me where my ideas jibe with what’s capable, and where they might exceed the scope of the platform. I’m basically just looking for someone who knows their way around the system.

I’m mostly just considering things having to do with controlling the look, possibly custom CSS, and *not* any backend superfreakiness. I will check out wordpress.org, though – thanx for the suggestion…

Advertising is not allowed here at wordpress.COM, as outlined in this wordpress document: http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/ .

    Dave,
Yes, it’s best if you really do understand the difference between .com and .org at WordPress.
wp.com is fairly straightforward, because we can only change the appearance of the sites—with CSS. It’s a platform shared by the masses.
wp.org is more complicated; though the software is free, you have to take care of technical issues with self hosting. On the other hand, you are able to change and adjust more aspects of your site.
    best wishes, t
