hit by “mature” report, is it responsible for entries not showing up

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay this is it, yesterday everything was fine, my entries were showing up in the correct and appropriate category “recently updated” lists and everything.
Then I noticed, a URL which led to the “report as mature”—which meant somebody figured that my journal was “mature” and then today, I go and write an entry and guess what? The entry does not show up in the recently updated category lists. No, I’m not new, I’ve been here a long time and never had any problems before with this, nor have I ever had somebody who decided to mark my journal as mature.
Give me a break. Most of WordPress is made up of “mature” journals that have sexually oriented entries, are all of them reported as mature and done away with in the category listings? Surely mine is pretty tame, as compared to some others that I have seen out there.
So, does being reported as mature thus restrict my journal from being placed on the recently updated lists of the categories?
I have rechecked all the settings, nothing has changed, I have done nothing to alter them. I even tried that little trick of going to settings, changing from English to some other thing like German (save) and then back to English (save) and nothing happens, my recent entries are still NOT being listed.
I don’t appreciate being blacklisted, if this is connected to the “report as mature,” especially since, as I said, my journal is quite tame, as compared to a lot of other journals out there.
So, is it blacklisted and thus no “recently updated” listings in the categories, or is it, once again a glitch that can’t be taken care of…why was it working perfectly yesterday and now not?

Only staff can say for sure if your blog is in the Mature category. Contact them. A report doesn’t put you in the category, it just gets staff to look at the blog and make the call.

Be aware that if your blog IS in the Mature category now, this effects your connection in the tag and category pages in that tags and categories on your posts link to the global pages, but there are no links back to you, AND it will take links to your blog off the Possibly Related Posts system (although your blog may or may not still display outgoing links). But it does not hide you from search engines or effect existing links other than those global tag/category pages and Possibly Relateds, and also in the forum (where your name is no longer a link to your blog {assuming it was before}).

Also: staff have been known to hear appeals and reverse the decision to set as Mature, so make your case when you contact them. Be specific, with URLs to posts and so on.

Also, eyeballing the blog, I’ve got to say you’re probably marked as Mature. It doesn’t matter if you hide Barbi Benton masturbation pictures behind a link, it’s still on WordPress.com.

  • Unknown's avatar

thanks for reply, i figured as much. what bugs me the most is that, as i said, my journal is a lot more tame than others i’ve seen here before.
and, BTW, i didn’t “hide” the barbi pix or even my entries on other pages, i got tired of being scraped all the time and nothing working (per WP suggestions) to keep that from happening.
with SO MANY journals on WP that are far more “naughty” than mine, i take this as a sign that some people don’t get around too much and desire to censer other people when they come across a journal with erotic, adult content.

Maybe you should take it instead that your blog is just a lot more popular than theirs and thus attracts more eyeballs, some of whom will point it out as Mature. Those eyeballs have never seen the other blogs, because nobody reads them.

  • Unknown's avatar

maybe you are right, however it just isn’t right anyway. WP should know that a majority of journals around here seem to be “adult” or at least have some adult oriented entries. the way i see it, is that the place is divided between the “christians” and the “adult”…
maybe this is redundant or stupid, but do i write them via the “support” or do they have a “contact” thing?

  • Unknown's avatar

Use the support link… there are pictures of Barbie Benton masturbating?!?

  • Unknown's avatar

A majority? I do a LOT of surfing using the Next Blog button, and I’d have to say that it’s less than 5% even on a bad day that are unreported Mature blogs. And I report the ones I see.

    http://wordpress.com/contact-support/

The most direct way is to use your Support button on the dashboard when Support is open. That’ll be in about six hours.

In your sidebar you have “Adult Advisory, erotic writings.” and in addition you have a number of images of females in various states of undress.

You had already determined your blog to be suitable for adults so I can’t see where the problem is.

  • Unknown's avatar

oh… you meant “pictures with which people could, if they were so inclined, use to facilitate masturbation”. Thirty-year old photos of Barbie lounging around in various stages of dress would maybe get a PG-13 rating today, but you put the Adult Advisory in your sidebar so… I think if you want a larger audience you might want to cool it on the Satanic themes and naked chicks.

BTW: you’re missing Barbie’s two Playboy cover shots and the artwork from her debut single Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep With You… awesome.

  • Unknown's avatar

satanic themes? wtf? what satanic themes are you speaking of, and i have written no such satanic oriented entries, there are no satanic themes, the avatar is “darkness” from the film, “legend” and the name is mephistopheles…so what? what is satanic about that?
and as for barbi benton, what’s your problem with her? those are the pictures that came out when i was younger and the ones that appeal to me…so?
and as to “mark,” who are you? are you a big shot around here? what is “key master” mean?
the problem is this; i was not informed by staff that the journal was blacklisted and also if you take no more than about 25 to 30 minutes going through such categories as “sex,” “erotica” “casual sex” “orgasms” “erotic” and anything dealing with sexual tendencies, you will come across plenty of journals which should be reported as mature, but aren’t. mine is no worse than their’s—though i have seen some that are.
i can send you the list i made in that 25 minute look-see if you want…or you and the staff can do it yourself and see for yourself.
there’s plenty of journals that having NOTHING BUT naked females, and i am condemned as “mature” because of several pictures, when there are so many that are nothing but?

If this is causing you so much distress perhaps you could get yourself a website that WP cannot control. That way, you could put anything you want out there! I expect that WP have a need to protect some members from stumbling upon unsuitable content. I don’t think it’s fair to assume that everyone wants to see such content.

Also, I’m not sure if you’re just after an argument but had you read “Feartheseeds” comment slowly, you may have noticed that he/she doesn’t seem to have any problem with Barbi Benton (who?!), he simply pointed out that you were missing some awesome pics… he even ended the comment with “AWESOME!”

    Happy blogging people, wooooosarrr!

I have been reported as mature too, I suppose. None of my updates to the journal are being seen in the categories. I don’t have erotica, I don’t have naked women. I have a few pictures of beautiful women in lingerie, or sexy clothes (you’d see as much at the beach or on TV)…IE: Mariah Carey, Jennifer Love Hewitt…but mostly it is current stuff going on.
How can anybody be offended by pictures of beautiful women, in clothing that is seen nearly everywhere, even in public places.
I have tried the little gimmics to reset things, nothing works, so I am supposing somebody figured that I was being naughty or something and reported me. What is it with these people?
Who do I go to, to “discuss” this, I do not believe my journal is too mature for anybody around here at WP…and at least what WP can do, when they remove you from updated entries is send a note to us.

    PS: to fionaleigh
I don’t think that was Meph’s point. However on the other hand, if you are going to use that “I don’t think it is fair to assume that everyone wants to see such content..” when it comes to erotica, one should be fair enough to also say that there are some people who don’t want to see the religious/Christian content either…and think that it can be and often is, as offensive as erotica might be.

  • Unknown's avatar

@ shrugged – why are you assuming that you were marked mature? Many people have had tagging difficulties, which has nothing to do with mature. For starters, your blog is only a week old! It takes a good while to get into the tagging system

  • Unknown's avatar

well, i will tell you, because it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been here. up till today ALL of my entries were showing up in the category listing. ALL of them. the very first time i did an entry, that first night, and hit “publish,” minutes later, the very first entry i wrote here on that very first night, showed up in the categories that i tagged them with.
so why would my older entries, which were once in the lists, suddenly be gone and the newer entries not show up, other than i have been reported as mature?
apparently wp staff doesn’t take the time out to write a note to those that it dubs mature, so i am going by assumption that i have, since it worked fine up till today and now it doesn’t. and i have tried all those little tricks to restart it.
    what else can it be?

  • Unknown's avatar

atlas0shrugged – Contact support and ask if you’ve been marked mature. They will tell you and discuss it with you either way. Sometimes mistakes are made too.

  • Unknown's avatar

Like I said, many have had trouble with the tagging system and it doesn’t necessarily have to do with a blog being ‘mature.’ In 0mephistopheles0’s case, it appears that it does. Especially since he can see in his clicks that someone marked it as such. I don’t know what else it could be. But perhaps assuming isn’t a good idea. It kind makes things go a-flaming, and others reading this thread are gonna jump on the bandwagon assuming it has to do with mature. Like you’ve obviously have read (as you stated that you’ve done all the tricks) many have had issues with the tags, and it has nothing to do with being dubbed mature. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Yeah, honestly like Raincoaster said early in this thread, only staff knows if something’s marked as mature. And if you’ve tried all the tricks everyone’s mentioned, then probably only staff can help you, anyhow.
