Hitting "Save Draft" deletes my work

This is the second time now that I have hit “save draft” on a post I am working on and instead of saving, the whole post is deleted and I have to rewrite everything. It’s really really annoying and if it keeps happening I am going to close my account with WordPress. Any advice?

  • Hi there. I’m going to guess you’re using the “new and improved” beep beep boop editor? If so, this is a known issue that has been reported countless times and never been fixed.

I strongly advise you to use the classic editor instead. Personally I’ve never lost any content while using that editor. To get to the classic editor, click on the WP-Admin link on the My Sites page. Then go to Posts ->Add New to create a new post with the classic editor.

An even safer (though less convenient) option, is to compose your posts offline in a text or blog editor, and then just make final adjustments inside the WordPress.com editor before you post. That way, even if something goes wrong online, your content isn’t gone.
