  I would like to create a holding page for my friends new start up business. Initially just need one page with a rotating image. Eventually, when content ready, expand the website to a small ecommerce website.
  With my requirements, in terms of schemes and templates, what is the best option to start with? A personal account and then upgrade it to a business price and template? Is this possible?

  Is there a template for a holding page?
