HOLY CRAP! HELP! Email no longer valid – how do I access my account?

I have a couple of blogs on WordPress, and the one I want to edit (not the one I’m logged in under) is attached to an email that no longer belongs to me. I have no record of the password to that account, so, I can’t log in, I can’t delete the account, and I can’t request a new password because the link will be sent to the email address I don’t own anymore.

How in the world am I supposed to fix this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

NOTE: WordPress goes too far with their automation. The note above automatically inserted “The blog I need help with is 10yearsbehind.wordpress.com.” That is NOT the case. The blog I need help with is actually http://www.holtwebb.wordpress.com

    Ignore this last line…

Do you have access to your account’s API Key? This was sent in your Welcome email with a note to keep it in the same place. We’ll need either that or an email from the address on the account to prove ownership.

Not really going too far, just trying to help. You’d be surprised how many people need help and never tell us what blog they need help with in the first request.

Sweet. Thanks for the quick response. :)

I don’t have any of the old emails from wordpress regarding that account. However, I can prove ownership by providing other information. Just tell me what you need. The site is my old “art” site with my images and stories of my work.

The email address that is associated with that account was tied to my old http://www.holtwebb.com website ((email visible only to moderators and staff)). That website got snagged from me (long story) by a Japanese company and I have been unsuccessful in contacting them. The http://www.holtwebb.com website was my photography site, but is now a bunch of jibberish (even when translated). Any emails sent (including password recovery emails) go to whoever is monitoring that Japanese site.

The only forms of identifications we can accept are an email from the address on the account or the account’s API key.

If you can at least confirm what the email address used to be along with the year and month the blog was registered, I can make it Private, but I can’t delete it or grant you access.

Do you have any records of past transactions? It looks like you might have been domain mapped.

No, I don’t see any transactions on that account. holtwebb.wordpress.com and holtwebb.com were separate sites.

I appreciate your addressing this issue, but making the blog Private doesn’t sound like it will help me. I need to either gain access to continue posting on the blog, or I need to delete it so the Japanese company can’t turn it into jibberish.

The email is (email visible only to moderators and staff). I don’t have access to that email anymore. However, my name is Holt Webb. I can send you a scan of my driver’s license if you want. I think the blog was set up in March of 2011. You can verify the artwork by looking at the copyright logo. You can cross-reference it through my other websites: http://www.holtwebb.vpweb.com or http://www.holtwebb.smugmug.com.

I can’t send you a new email through the (email visible only to moderators and staff) account, but I can forward you copies of old emails sent to me via my old (email visible only to moderators and staff) address (I even found one from WordPress). I have all kinds of ways to prove that the site is mine, except for the singular email address that I no longer own.

Ok, in order to prove ownership, we can only accept an email sent from that address or the account’s API Key.

We cannot accept any other form of identification and cannot grant access to the blog or delete it without proof of ownership as outlined above.

Well, that’s disappointing and frustrating. So that site just has to sit out there on your servers, taking up space along with the dozens (possibly hundreds) of other blogs that can’t be accessed by their owners? That means that I (and the others with this problem) have to start over. Not cool.

I am sorry, this policy does mean that you will not be able to access this blog, but it also means that millions of blogs are also safe from being taken over simply by someone claiming to be the owner with no credentials.

I’m not saying that you are one of those people, just clarifying why the policy exists.
