Home link shows all pages
-
I’m totally new to WordPress, but I have a lot of experience from 10-20 years ago constructing web pages using HTML coding.
I use a theme that has a menu bar across the top. So far I have two pages: Home and About. When I click the About link, the About page shows (as it should). But when I click the Home link, both pages are shown, with About at the top and Home underneath it.
I would like for only the Home page to show up when the Home link is selected in the menu bar. It just seems to be pretty obvious that this is the way it should be, but I can’t figure out how to make it happen.
By the way, this problem is the same no matter what theme I pick. So changing themes is not the answer.

Hi, looks like your blog is hosted not on the WordPress.com. It means that you have to look for help at WordPress.org support forums:
https://wordpress.org/support/You can learn more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org from this support article:
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/If your question is about WordPress.com blog then please provide a link to it.
Happy blogging! :)

Thanks. Are you saying that the behavior of WordPress will differ based on who is hosting it? If so, that’s pretty lousy quality control.

Also, I’m not really interested in blogging features. I just want a structure to eventually create a (mostly static) webpage. I like the ability to redesign by changing templates while leaving the content intact.
Is WordPress the wrong choice if I don’t want blogging features?

I think that WordPress is a great choice in your case.
But the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org are not all about hosting:

Thanks, I am now familiar with the differences between the two sites. And I have cross-posted my question at wordpress.org.
But my other question is still relevant: Have you ever seen a case where the behavior that I described could be affected by the hosting service? I would hope that the behavior is fully controlled by the underlying WordPress software, so as long as different hosts are running the same version of WordPress, the behavior would be the same. Is this not true?

Okay, then I would like to suggest you to read these two WordPress.org Codex articles:

Thanks for your help. I figured out the problem. I did have my page marked as static, but there was some warning in Settings-Reading not to have the same page selected twice. I can’t remember exactly what it was because once I fixed it the warning went away (and now I can’t get it back to reproduce the problem). But once that warning disappeared, the behavior of the pages was proper. I’m now up to 4 pages, and all are displaying properly on the menu bar and beneath it.
Thanks again!
I will direct future issues with that page to wordpress.org. I did set up a blog here also, so if I have problems with that one I’ll post them here.
