  Hello, is it possible to have the home page show the title of each post (in large font as titles appear automatically) followed by the excerpt only with the user having to click on a link to bring them to the relevant content?

  Yes, either use a theme that does this automatically OR use the More tag, the one that looks like a dotted line across a sheet of paper.
