How do I get rid of the text that appears on the side of all my pictures
It says ‘This is the excerpt for a placeholder post. Click the edit link to modify or delete it or start a new post.’ Where is the edit button?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • That text is an excerpt of your blog post. Excerpts can be used to create a summary or an introduction to your post.
Read the following documentation on how to create and edit (or remove) excerpts:

I’m also having this problem. The page you referred did not answer the question for me. How exactly do you prevent viewers from seeing this phrase on the Blog Page: ‘This is the excerpt for a placeholder post. Click the edit link to modify or delete it or start a new post.’ It shows up no matter how I enter the page. This verbiage is not something our viewers should see. Thank you.

  • The instructions are clear and simple.

The Excerpt box can be found to the left of the post editor, under More Options with some other publishing options. To remove the sample text just write something in the empty box and hit update, then go back and delete everything you’ve written previously in the excerpt box. Click update again and you’re done.

Let me know if you need additional help.

Thank you, fstat, for your info. I know this is easy for you who know the site, but some of us just aren’t geeky enough and have to learn as we go. Your information helped me a great deal. I got rid of the verbiage in the Placeholder block, but now I can’t find the Placeholder block to add another post. It just disappeared. Please understand, this is very frustrating but I need to keep going. galleryforbooksandart.wordpress.com

Hi fstat, Thank you for coming to my rescue again. I truly appreciate your help as I learn more about my set up. However, I may not have made myself clear. Am not looking for how to post an Excerpt. I can already do that in the sections I’ve already set up.

I’m looking for a PLACEHOLDER block. When I first started, I had four titles on my Blog page. They are: My Books, under that, My Photography, under that, My Paintings and Art. Under that, I had a 4th Placeholder title of Creative Friends. When you told me how to remove the unwanted verbiage in that block, I did what you said, but it left me with no 4th Placeholder block to use. I wish to add the title of Creative Friends at the BOTTOM of the page, BELOW my title of My Paintings and Art. Where do I find another Placeholder block? I’m hesitating, but I think I may have to delete my page and start over again. Or refresh the template? I just don’t know. Thank you again for your time.

  • Please don’t delete your site. We can figure this out.
Your site is private, so it’s not visible to me or anyone else. To better assist you, you can either make your site public or if you don’t want to, you can send me a screenshot along with what theme you’re using.

Thank you, fstat. I had not wished to make my site public till I had something worthwhile for viewers to peruse. But now I’ve made it public so you can see.

I’m using Gateway because I liked what I saw in the example. However, my site doesn’t look a bit like that – though I have a lot to learn, so I’m taking it one step at a time and accepting how things come out – for now anyway.

Thank you again for seeing me through this.

  • The four titles you’re referring to are blog posts. You’ve probably deleted the post named “Creative friends” which you can probably find in your trash and recover it.
To add a new blog post you can follow these instructions. Please note that blog posts are listed in reverse chronological order (most recent at the top).
