This is a one or the other situation. You have two choices on any blog
(1) All posts on the front page ie. the Home page. By default that is the URL of the site.(2) A static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ and all posts on a different page.
By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. Create your two pages first
Front page:
Posts page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/After you do that you go to > Dashboard > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/A static page (select below)
Front page:
Posts page:Go to http://katharinadurrer.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php and make the required change.
Front page displays
Save changes

That theme has been retired and themes are retired when they no longer support all wordpress.COM features. You can continue to use it but the recommendation is to switch themes to a newer one.
Please browse 4 White + Light + Two Columns + Responsive Layout + Travel WordPress Themes https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/travel+two-columns+responsive-layout+white+light/?sort=free
re: switching themes
Note that switching themes https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/#switch-themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site. Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do a lot of work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme with different features and/or if you have done any CSS editing.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.

Hi there,
The HTML on that page is a mess. You have multiple levels of div tags nested inside each other, to the extent that I can’t even figure out where each tag is closed. I’m almost certain that’s causing problems for the visual editor – if I switch to HTML mode I can edit your page without any problems.
Did you copy that page’s content in from somewhere else, like a word processor or from a different website? If so, you also copied over a bunch of junk code along with the content.
To fix this, you’ll need to edit the post and remove all the unnecessary code. The WP-Admin editor works to edit it, so go there:
https://tmcanallen.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=4881&action=edit
Highlight all the content on the page, and click the Clear Formatting button in the toolbar.
https://cloudup.com/cMWzWTsh7vx
You will need to re-do your heading colours and galleries, but then you’ll be able to edit the page in the new editor as well, and it won’t have the display problems it has at the moment.

Hi Kokkieh
I have been writting my content in word docs, then copying & pasteing. |Some of the images i used on this homepage are from “free stock”, obviously causing problems. . i have removed all content from the page and will start over. . do you recommend any free stock sites where i can copy images, , one more question, how do i hide the word “Home” from that page when it is being viewed as the sites address, , thank you for your help.

I have been writting my content in word docs, then copying & pasteing.
That is the problem, not the stock photos. Word processors like MS Word use a type of code called Rich Text. Your site’s editor uses a different type of code, called HTML. When you paste from Word to your site’s editor, we try to convert the rich text, but some junk code from Word usually comes across as well.
To prevent this, when you copy from Word, click the button right next to the clear formatting button, that looks like a clipboard with a T on it. Then paste your text. That button strips out formatting that might not work here.
This does mean any formatting you add in Word will be lost, so wait to create heading, colour changes, etc, until after you’ve pasted the text in the editor and make those changes in the editor.
We do have some sources for free images here:
Finding Free Images and other Media
I personally use pixabay.com a lot, as it allows you to download images and host them yourself, and most of their images don’t require attribution.
how do i hide the word “Home” from that page when it is being viewed as the sites address,
The only way to hide it is by using custom CSS, and you need the Premium or Business plan to do that.
