Home Page

I have a menu and I want my front page of my blog to be my Home page. So when someone goes to my blog, the page that shows up is my Home page. How do I do that? Also, rather than have a blog full blog post, I’d like my Home page to make it just exerts (or brief summaries of the posts so that it displays about 5 or 6 of my most recent posts. I’d also like the date removed from my Featured Image and instead show the date and the author underneath the title of the post. How do I do all of this? I can’t find any information how to do this.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

By default the front page of your blog displays all posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.

To do that create two pages > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

    Front page displays

To create front page excerpts we can split content in posts by inserting “the more tag” http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

You cannot delete the date stamp that is embedded into every post you publish.

To hide the date that appears above or near the post on the blog requires purchasing and annually renewable custom design upgrade and doing the required CSS editing. Moving any elements also requires them too.

Thank you so much! I’m pretty sure what I want to do is make my front page my Home page – so that when “Home” is clicked on from my menu, it takes the viewer to the front page. How do I do this?

Oh, and I should add, I don’t want a static front (Home) page. I want it to show the most recent posts.

The URL for your blog by default is the front page of your blog
    example http://thesewingaffair.wordpress.com/
That page by default displays all published posts on the blog.
If you want any other page to be the front page of the blog follow the directions I posted above and refer to http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Ack, thank you! I’m new and didn’t know about the term “front” page. I always thought it was referred to as “home”. So much to learn!

So I’ve followed the instructions, but now my post isn’t showing up on my front (home) page. I see it listed under my category titled “Projects” but not on my front page. What do I need to do now so it shows up as a brief summary on my front (Home) page? I feel like I’ve missed a step when publishing it but can’t figure out what that might be. I’ve searched the forum but I don’t understand what to search for in order to fix it.

It’s seems so complicated! I think the front page should just be “editable” so a person can add it to the menu and title it “Home” or whatever they want to. Spoken like a true “Newbie”! lol

I just don’t understand how a viewer can get back to the front page that lists all of the recent posts once they click on a link without having to retype the blog name in the address bar if they don’t have a “Home” button to click on.

Or if they click on one of the other menu topics – essentially, once they are buried deep into the blog. I just want a menu “page” or “button” or whatever listed in the menu navigation bar to take the reader back to the front page rather than having to type it in the address bar.
