Home Page confusion

    My theme (skylark) came with a home link button which takes me to a page I can’t edit. I want to be able to make my own home page with the post-slider on it.

    When I go to the Support section about the homepage/setting a static page, it leads you to SETTINGS – READING, but what I see on the support page is completely different to what I see when I go to Settings – Reading on my dashboard. There’s nothing there about the menu and setting static pages etc.

    I can’t see how to create a menu so that the names of my pages appear along the top. Is this because I’ve set my pages to private? (I want to keep them that way until my site is completely ready).

    I feel that a lot of the instructions and help in the support pages is geared to blog-making, which does not really help me because I want to make a website. It’s taking me hours to get around the smallest things. Even the dashboard seems to be all about blog-making…
