Home page display is scrambled

Hi, Ever since our post on October 26th the home page of our blog is scrambled (the footers appear on the side bar and the side bar is messed up). The header is wrong also. I went to the forum and some of the members tryed to help but their suggestions didn’t work. I have the latest IE and Flash updates. I checked that HTML is corrected in the posts I make and I looked for open HTML tags (but I am a novice and am not sure if I did this correctly). I was hoping that you may give me more things to try. Thank you for your time.

  • Everything appears to be fine. Were you able to resolve the issue?

HI! Thanks for getting back to me. Nope. It still is happening but just on the homepage and just in IE. The individual posts are ok and if I use AOL or Firefox it’s OK. The footers are in the side box, there are extra bullets on the sidebar, the search box is lower on the header, and the colored bar used in the footer is up near the top of the page. Some of the words at the bottom of the posts are also outside the post box. Thank you again for looking into this.

Aother crazy thing I just noticed is that it only does it when I’m logged in…I guess it’s not that bad but it’s kind of weird. Any ideas?

I tested http://thiskidreviewsbooks.com/ in IE8 and I could load the page without any problems most of the time, but a few times, I saw an error like this one: http://d.pr/89IJ

Can you load your site in IE8 and look for any triangle shaped warning icons at the bottom of the browser status bar and let me know if you see any errors there? If you see any, can you copy the error message or take a screenshot of it so I can see if it’s the same one I saw happening some of the time?

Also, if you load your site in browser compatibility mode, does it make the problem go away for you?

Note: I did my testing while logged out.

I’m really sorry if I am being slow at this, I am a total novice. So the version of IE I have is IE9 running on windows 7. It won’t let me load IE8. I re-loaded the page (in IE9) a couple of times and like you said sometimes it would load fine and others it would not display correctly. I never saw any error messages pop up at any time. If I load the page in compatibility mode the footer goes back to where it should be but the extra bullets and the search box is still out of place. At no time did I see any error messages. I did this all logged out also. Any other suggestions?

I think there is something on your pages which is causing interference with that browser. From my testing, I only saw an error related to the Digg button in the sharing tools. The issue I saw might be a temporary glitch and it might not be the root cause of the problem, but it’s the only error I saw while testing. Could you try removing the Digg button from your Settings → Sharing page as a test to see if that resolves the issue for you in IE9?

That worked!! I even re-loaded it a bunch of times and it looks fine. Thanks so much :)

Cool! Now, the Digg button should work normally and you shouldn’t have to remove it, but it does seem to be a Javascript bug from what I can tell. I submitted a bug report about it at http://about.digg.com/contact
