Home page error

  My home page has the quote, ‘Sorry but you’re looking for something that isn’t here’. How do I rectify this? Can I show my recent (only) post on the front page. Not what I want people to see on their first visit. Sorry if this is very basic but I’m a wordpress virgin on my first outing.

  You deleted the placeholder post and created a “404” (page not found). As soon as you publish a post this error message for the post you deleted will no longer appear. http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/

  I also note that the site you have linked to your wordpress.com username is NOT a wordpress.com blog. On this wordpress.com support forum we provide support only to those who have free hosted wordpress.com blogs.

  If you are referring to wordpress.org blog then you are posting to the wrong forum because you failed to read the sticky post at the head of this forum. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1

  Exactly which blog are you referring to? Please post the complete URL for it starting with http://
