Home page faulty on mobile scrern

Hi there, I chose the Twenty Seventeen theme as it said it was mobile friendly and indeed it is as far as my About Me page and first blog are concerned. But my home page is not. I have tried decreasing the size of the header photo and cropping it too but when I go to the home page via my mobile, all I see is an enlarged part of the header photo. I cannot evdn navigate around it so visitors coming onto my site via the web address will not be able to use it. Please help! Thanks.

  • Hey @beatdepression776!

I see what you mean, when I view the mobile version of your site the home page is covered with the large header image. However when I scroll down a little I am able to see and access your dropdown menu. The Twenty Seventeen theme is mobile compatible as you had stated earlier. The design of the theme is to have the large header that takes up the entire page leaving the menu at the very bottom and naturally because of the different dimension of a mobile screen it will need to trim some of the photo. You can see this in the example photo on the theme page.

Your best bet is going to be formatting the image you have uploaded for your header to work with both versions. If that is not something you are comfortable with or really don’t want to do that it may be better to just look for a theme that offers a better mobile page : )

Another option you have if you really do want to stick with the Twenty Seventeen theme would be upgrading to a Premium plan which will give you the ability to edit the CSS. By editing the stylesheet for your site you can tweak that header to look the way you want it.

If you need any help setting with this or you would like to upgrade and don’t know how feel free to respond back and some one will gladly assist you.

    Cheers,

    Tony

Hi Tony, thank you for your quick response and the advice you have given. The problem is that when I try to trim my image by cropping it, it makes no difference. I had used a different image before that one and thought that maybe if I downloaded an image with a smaller resolution that would do the trick. I know I could go back to using one of their suggested images – but as my blog is called ‘Moving the furniture’, the only one that vaguely matches is the table with the catus plant. But I hate catuses, they are ugly and it upsets me to think I have to use an image I don’t really want. Also I cannot find the page where I can contact s happiness engineer. Thanks for the other tip, but I do not want to upgrade at this stage.

Just an update on porgress: Thankfully I managed to fix the problem. It had nothing to do with the image sizes at all. My home page screen was defaulted to a two-column screen and when I changed it to a one-column page it rectified the problem straight away. Thanks again for trying to help.
