Home page Header not looking like the template

    Hi,

How do I make the header in homepage looks like the template?
    1. The template doesn’t have anything on the upper left corner, but our site title shows up there.
    2. The template shows the site title in the middle. Ours shows “home”

Also, the homepage picture permeates to our other pages while the template doesn’t.

    Thanks.

  • Hi there,

    1. The template doesn’t have anything on the upper left corner, but our site title shows up there.

This is where the site title is displayed (upper left) when you have selected a page as your static homepage. If you switch to display your latest blog posts, then the title is moved to the center.

    2. The template shows the site title in the middle. Ours shows “home”

To fix that you can edit the title of that page from “Home” to your site’s title. Then just hide the titled displayed on the top-left by going to WordPress.com > My Sites > Design > Customize > Site Identity and uncheck the “Display Site Title and Tagline” option.

Thanks. However, I can’t rename the title of the page to my site name because there is not “Home” page on my list of pages.

Also, the homepage picture (the open book with a fountain pen tip) permeates to our other pages while the template doesn’t. Need help to make it look like the template.

    Thanks.

OK, I reloaded the template. Now I have a homepage. Turns out, what I was asking is the header image.

I unchecked the “Display Site Title and Tagline” option, so that’s good now, thanks.

However, the header image still says “HOME” and I can’t find it anywhere to change it to our site name. There is nowhere in the “Home” page that displays the word “HOME”, so I can’t even change that name.

Also, the header image is black and it permeates to all pages. However, in the template, the header image is white, while the rest of the pages are black. So,
    1. how can I disassociate the homepage header image with the rest of the pages?
    2. Resize the header image to be shorter?

    never mind, changing template…

  • Hi, I’m not seeing the word “HOME” currently. That should be the page name. Did you figure this out?

I’m also not seeing a black header image.

You can change the height of a cover block though while editing the page. Click on the block, and where it says min height, go ahead and specify something smaller, like 500px.
