home page images are distorted

In one day my blogs received 30 comments, but these “visits” were not supported by the stats. Also, the comments were accompanied by various unattached photos from my media library, how is that possible?
And today, I find the images on my home page are distorted. Could someone tell me what’s going on?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • What you received were a whole bunch of spam comments.

Spam comments are typically left by bots, and we don’t track those.

Most spam comments are intentionally vague so that they can be applied to a number of posts without raising too much suspicion.

An easy way to determine if a comment is spam is to check the URL that they left. Is that something that you’d want to link to on your blog? More than likely, it’s a scammy store, get rich quick scheme, etc.

Another thing that I do is get rid of any comment that does not have a real name. In this case, you have comments from two people apparently named “weather vane” and “esophageal spasm treatment.”

  • As for your homepage images, they seem fine to me, can you please try clearing your browser’s cookies and cache?

So I can’t track how many visitors my site receives or where they came from. Are you also saying that because the comments on my blog were left by bots, they can access my media library and attach those comments to unattached/unused images that are in the library (as was the case)? If so, are there any limits to what they can or can not do? Then what good is my site’s security? And what other security measures should I take to prevent this kind of manipulation of my content?

Did you know that over 80% of all comments, trackbacks and pingbacks received on the WordPress.com site daily are spam? Some is bot generated spam and some is human generated spam as spammers are now paying people to spam blogs hoping their links will get posted. I think the most effective response is to Moderate your comments and learn how to distinguish spam from legitimate comments. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

  • No, you can track where your visitors come from. We just don’t track automated programs that only leave spam comments (aka bots).

No, these bots cannot access your media library. They just left on the comments on your publicly available image attachment pages.

These are automated programs which can only leave comments.

If bots are unable to access my media library, then how do you explain comments being left on my blog with unused (unattached) images from my media library being attached to them? And what security measures can I use to protect my site from this type of invasion?

    “Invasion”? Remember what macmanx said:

No, these bots cannot access your media library. They just left on the comments on your publicly available image attachment pages.

    (Emphasis mine)

If you’re still not convinced you were not invaded, I suggest you contact staff directly:
