Home Page is Loading Slowly
-
Hello,
Our Home page has been loading slower than usual ever since we updated the featured image. My guess is that is the culprit. Any suggestions on how to remedy this issue?
Is the file just too large? If so, would compressing it quicken the loading speed without distorting too much?
Or could there be another factor that is causing this?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

There’s a total of 21mb of images on that page, and the header is 5.32mb alone, and according to this webpage speed test, it’s taking their test system 32 seconds to load: https://goo.gl/EyFqiU
I would suggest optimizing the images and archiving the older posts on the main page.
This guide has some tips on image optimization: https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/
I hope that helps, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi there,
You have already received good advice. You may be able to get more from the theme designer too in the Pena theme support forum.

Forum https://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/penaHow quickly any site loads is dependent upon what the blogger has done on the site and on which device they are using to access the site.
These are the ways to reduce page loading time:
1. Edit posts and insert “the more tag” so only excerpts appear on the fort page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/2. Reduce the number of posts appearing on the front page here > Settings > Reading
Blog pages show at most _ posts3. Reduce the number of images and or media embeds displayed and/or make them smaller.
4. Reduce the number of widgets in the sidebar and footer areas.
5. Optimize your images prior to uploading them and presize them to exactly fit where you want them to display before you upload them. This can help reduce download time. It will also result in better image quality and you will not be wasting your free image space allocation.
