Home page not uploaded to the server

  • Unknown's avatar

Recently, I started up a wordpress website. I’ve made a few pages. They all load just fine. However, the home page does not. I am not sure if I need to do something with it or if it’s up to the server to change something.

The error message I get is as follows:

    This site is under development

This page indicates the webmaster has not uploaded a website to the server.

For information on how to build or upload a site, please visit your web hosting company’s site.

Also, before I forget, I don’t know anything about php. So hardcoding is not my strong suit.

You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you’ll find help at the WordPress.org forums.

If you don’t understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.

If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It’ll help people to answer your question.

    This is an automated message.

You did not specify a URL, but your question is common for WordPress.ORG installs, see above for links.

You probably need to delete a html file, no coding required.

    You have a WordPress.ORG install on IPAGE.COM

    Your blog is here: http://www.trabexbooks.com/wordpress

You have some changes, but they are common changes – but please read all of the instructions and DO NOT just change the address in your control panel – that will give you even more problems

Thank you for your help but…

“Reading the instructions” is a nice thing to say, but harder to do- especially when you don’t know which instructions to read or where to find them.

There was a home page uploaded to the website, but I deleted it. I am not sure if that’s now causing the 404 error.

Open an account over at WordPress.ORG, the user name there is not related to WordPress.COM – so you can use the same email there as here.

If you explain exactly what you did and the URL, they should be able to explain what you need to do. I used to help at .ORG and your question is one that was seen pretty much every day

Ick. This is getting more complicated than I thought. Deleting the home page was a bad idea. First I have to download that again, and then I have to figure out this home page issue.

It is increasingly looking like I will use another service besides wordpress (or hard code the site myself).

The 404 Page not found is not a problem, I repeat not a problem.

You probably deleted the sample Post and did not change the default home page – neither is a big problem – takes all of a couple of minutes to solve

Get help to have your blog / WordPress.ORG install show up when people visit your root directory – then the other things are easy – the WordPress software is relative easy to use, and it searches well if you follow some basic good WordPress practices.

Well, as of now, I can’t do anything with the dashboard in wordpress. It just brings up blank screens. So I’ll download all the files I have, delete everything, install, then copy over what I have. If that doesn’t work, it’s on to something else.

Yes, on to WordPress.ORG, where you will find support for your version of the software.
