Home Page Options

Currently, I have a static front page. I have two questions about this:

    1. Is there a way to add snippets or abbreviated chunks of my blog posts in the sidebar of my static front page? The reason I chose a static front page is so I could have a permanent, keyword-rich blurb on the index page explaining what the site is about. For SEO reasons, I’d like to have the main index page also show fresh updated content (chunks of abbreviated text from my blog).

    2. If I’d be better off (SEO-wise) having a standard blog format (no static home page), how would I show the permanent blurb in the sidebar of only the front/main/index page (I wouldn’t want this in the sidebar of every page because it would be redundant)?

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you in advance.
