home page password protect won't work
-
I set the page that has my blog posts on it as password protected, but it just doesn’t work.
password protecting other pages works fine.I’ve searched the forums & support with little joy.
Is it possible? It shows up as ‘password protected’ in the dashboard, but it just doesn’t work.
Any help!!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I should clarify – my front page is a static page, my posts page is called ‘conversation’ & it’s the one that the password protection won’t work on.

Please don’t “bump” your question! When someone comes along who has an answer, then he or she will know how to find your thread. Two hours is not a long time to wait: we are mostly volunteers helping in these forums.
As far as I know, one can not password protect the dynamic post page. A single post or page at a time can be password protected. The single post you have on the “conversations” page has not been password protected.
The dynamic post page is generated “on the fly” as a collection of all your posts—that means you can’t actually “edit” that page other than delimiting the number of posts which appear on that page. Each post can be password protected, but not the collection as a whole. I’m not understanding how you are even attempting to do so?

Bumping threads distorts the fabric of space and time as well as irritates the unpaid volunteers you want to help you. Remember the average help time on most forums is in the range of 12 to 18 hours.

Morning 1tess – you type faster than I and had more info for them – they did ask for “hints” – my guess is their site is working just fine but they are confused on Pages vs. Posts and Posts on Pages.
-
Calling the home/front/blog page may be the confusion: it is a page, but it is not a page we “edit” because it is the essential dynamic structure of the blogging software.
I’m curious how taselec was attempting to set it as “password protected.”
-
Morning from me too!
Taselec obviously set a password in the page editor. Missing two things:
a) The distinction between static and dynamic pages, as Tess pointed out.
Static page: just like a post only outside the chronological structure of the blog, created by us, editable. Example: About page.
Dynamic page: automatically generated, automatically updated, displays a series of posts. Example: a page displaying the posts filed under a certain category or published a certain month.b) The fact that when you set a page as your posts page in Settings>Reading, you no longer get to see or access the original static page: you simply borrow its title, so to speak, to create a link to the dynamic page displaying your posts.

Oh, of course, oblivious me!
“Taselec obviously set a password in the page editor”
then…
set the formerly static page to his dynamic page
