  How do I get to place a photo on my homepage, as the standard view
  and below it thumbnails of my recent posts?

  And Im not sure if this theme allows for the change in background colour. Please help!

  Hi,

  The theme presently activated on your site, Mayland, is a rather simple theme. It doesn’t have header image or background colour options at Customize.

  It sounds like you might be describing a featured content section, or a certain design of how posts display on the blog page. Mayland doesn’t offer a featured content section, and posts are not displayed with thumbnails of featured images on the blog page. So you might consider switching to a theme that is more suitable for the site you envision.

  If you choose to stick with Mayland, you could use display posts shortcode on a static front page, customized to include thumbnails of featured images. See the following relevant support pages if you wish to go that route:

  1. Display Posts Shortcode
  2. Set a Static “Home” Page (Front Page)
  3. Featured Images</a

  Another option might be to use the Blog Post Listing Block in a static front page, but I’m not sure if that could include thumbnails of featured images.
