Home page question

    Hi,

Newbie here and just started my blog http://salesrepblog.wordpress.com/

I have searched the forums but not on this. I have pages “home” and “About” and “Sales Forum”. All is fine, but when I go into My Dashboard > Pages > only “about” and “Sales Forum” are listed?

Where is the “home” page listed? Yet the blog appears to be fine?

    Many thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The “home” page isn’t really a page in a traditional sense. It is the main blog page and is generated on the fly by the wordpress PHP script files as required. That is what allows the page to by dynamic and show a constantly updating list of your posts.

What were you wanting to edit?

Ok, thanks. Thats a relief. I thought I had deleted if from the My Dashboard. Obviously I didn’t then as it’s still there.

    Phewww :-)

So “home” shouldn’t be listed in My Dashboard > Pages then (as like I said I thought I had deleted it?)

What I did is remove the “pages” widget, and use “text” widgets instead. This way you can give any names to the sidebar headings and insert any items that you want.

    dashbar > appearance > widgets
    > move page widget to the left > move text widgets to the right > expand text widgets (click right of bar) > insert names and links

They weren’t actually wanting to remove the home page, they were just puzzled as to why it did not show up in the dashboard at pages > edit.

@sales, that is correct. The “home” page will not show up at dashboard > pages > edit.

Another newbie here. I have all of my pages created. Screwed up and made them as pages and not post, changed them to posts, by now I can’t get the page I want as “Home” to show up!! It comes up with the last page I have in categories. How do I change to the “Home” [age that I want?

It helps to have a link to your blog.

I know, I thought it would be there, I’m trying to find out why it isn’t now. It’s somecallmeishmael.wordpress.com. That could be another answer you could give :)

I also just uploaded an image for the posts, maybe that will have it in a minute

Your blog looks great. The home page is there, and the posts.

WordPress is setup so the posts go on the home page, and the other pages are static (no posts), but any page can have comments. You can change this to have a static front page, which I did for awhile and then decided the default format is better.

The problem is that I want The Rest of the Story to be the home page, not Who Do You Owe. How can I change it?

  • Unknown's avatar

How did you change to a static front page? Would that be the same thing I am trying to do?

  • Unknown's avatar

Help! This thing is driving me absolutely insane! somecallmeishmael.wordpress.com I go to the Blog, I select The Rest of the Story, and Who Do You Owe pops up. I go to admin, Posts and The Rest of the Story only has a checkmark in The Rest of the Story. I go to Categories and All of the Categories show Rest of the Story as Parent. Who Do You Owe post only has a checkmark against Who Do You Owe categoy! Why is it doing this?

There is a trick…. and stay with me as it is a little convoluted.

First create a page and for the title of that page, paste the following into the title field:

    <a href="http://somecallmeishmael.wordpress.com/category/the-rest-of-the-story/">Home </a>

Do not put anything into the body of the page. Save and publish the page.

Next create a page for you posts, name it what you want and publish it. Again do not put anything into the body of the page.

Now go to settings > reading and set the “home” page you created in the first step (with the hyperlink as the title) as the static front page. Next set the page you created for your posts as the posts page. Go to the bottom of the page and click save changes.

Your blog looks great with the most recent posts on front page. Consider, if you change that to a static page then nothing will ever change, vs now with it being dynamic. You can change it under “settings > reading” – there is a faq on how to do this. Something else has to be done first or else it doesn’t show up there – it’s not showing there on mine now. I will look for the link for you.
