Home page – saved as a theme cannot save as a page

    Please help – sorry I am complete novice with WordPress. I have been working all week on my new web page and progressing well now. However, I think I may have made a fundamental error. When first , choose the 24 24 theme and customised it – I am using this as my home page but it is not saved as a page – all my other pages are saved as pages. I lost the home page this morning, I think because there was an upgrade. How can I ensure that I do not loose again and can I copy it to be a page if this is the problem

    To get to my home page, I click on edit site, the design pages comes up showing an image of my home page I click on this and carrying on editing in here Is this correct?
