Home page says oops! Page not found? have waited 2 days for response. Please help me

Help please someone. I went in earlier and changed theme from Dara to Toujours and home page went kablooey! “oops. page not found” with a search bar comes up. It does show however in my site pages list as the home page and won’t let me delete it and make new one. Then decided to go to Radcliffe theme and it didn’t change anything. I cannot find anything amiss in the back office or settings. Can someone help me figure it out? Or tell me where to fix it?
Also, I deleted all my pages since they seemed to be multiplying without me adding more pages. This is ok right no since I have text copied elsewhere and am basically just starting to build this. Was it me or the theme?

Thanks in advance for any and all help. Am going to wait for a response from someone before I continue. What happened to my site? Do I need to delete account and start over? Or will someone at wordpress fix this for me? THanks

    Jen

  • Hi Jen, can you go ahead and restore those pages first, before they are deleted permanently?

I’d also recommend switching back to Dara for the moment. Toujours shows posts on the front page, so if you do not have any posts (only pages) it would indicate that there aren’t any, with a “not found” message. So that’s likely what happened there.

If you’ll let us know what you’re hoping to do we may be able to recommend an appropriate theme.

Also, I noticed your existing pages are set to private. That can make theme setup a bit difficult, so would you be willing to publish those? If you’d like, you can make the entire site private while you’re working on it.

Thanks for the response but am not seeing how deleted pages matter? I did what you asked. I have a stray page, my about me page that I just restored and it is not coming up on the menu. Deleted menu and it still shows on site.

Also, have media buttons showing up on pages which I don’t want there. Even Google plus, and their dead. This seems a waste of time to fix this. It keeps screwing up.

All I want is a simple site with 5-6 pages and no slider with maybe a few pics. A business card type site.

Would it safe time to just delete the whole thing and start over?? I am wasting too muh time on this.

I had wanted to build site under free plan and then upgrade. I am glad I didn’t buy yet.

    Thanks again and advise please

  • Jen Liske, I don’t recommend deleting the whole site since you’ve already taken time to write the content.

I do see the duplicate pages you’re talking about now, though. Just delete the ones you definitely don’t want. Any you’ve customized, please consider leaving them there.

Then you can add the menu as you’d like:

    Menus

To get rid of media buttons (regardless of theme) head to My Site > Sharing > Buttons. You can uncheck everything on the “Options” list and then you won’t shouldn’t media buttons at all.

If you’re looking for a “business card” type site without a blog, Dara works well, unless you don’t like the look of it. You can use it with or without a slider.

Tojours didn’t work because it’s more of a blogging theme, and you didn’t have blog posts.

Thanks for the reply. As far as the social media buttons, I never put them in in the first place. Thats the issue with them. That’s you guys, may want to look into that.

I will take it from here.

    Jen

  • Hi Jen,

I don’t currently see any social media button on your site.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you. I’m happy to help.
