Homepage

I am new on WordPress and I have an intermediate understanding of blogs. I would like to have a homepage with a picture and a brief commentary of what the post is about, similar to this:
http://foodpress.com/
http://www.ricaperrone.com.br/
(may ignore the second example as it is not wordpress, but use it to understand my idea).
As you see in the FoodPress in today`s special (if you go down in the homepage), there is a picture with a summary of the post. I want to do that, any suggestion?
Thanks, I will be waiting for an answer. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Create and publish that page and then set it as your static front page. You will also have to create and publish a page to use as the “post” page.
-
Can you give me an example of the structure of the content how I should post it to look something similar to that?
Thanks… -
You could use the Inuit Types theme as it will automatically display only the beginning of posts creating a magazine style layout.
Inuit Types is a crisp and clean magazine theme with alternate color schemes, your choice of sidebar on the left or right, a one or two-column post layout on the home page, and sharp feature post styling.
Tags: light, theme-options, white, black, fixed-width, custom-colors, custom-menu, threaded-comments, rtl-language-support, art, blog, business, fashion, news, photography, portfolio, wedding, bright, clean, conservative, dark, formal, geometric, light, minimal
The theme options include:
__# Featured Post Entries
__One Column Featured Posts
__One Column Normal Posts
__Single Post Featured ImageAppearance > Themes

Yes, but I would really like to do that in the theme Twenty Ten.
Any suggestions? I was reading what thesacredpath said, I already know about that, but I had problems with the structure of how I should put it in the content.
Hope someone helps me.
Thanks. -
Yes, but I would really like to do that in the theme Twenty Ten.
There is no theme option in the Twenty Ten theme that you can choose to automatically enable the display of only the beginnings of posts like there is in Inuit Types and in Fusion. I posted the theme options for Inuit Types above. Front page excerpts Excerpts in the Fusion can be slected here > Appearance > Theme Options
In the Twenty Ten theme and in all themes except Monontone and Duotone you have to insert “the more tag” into each post in order to achieve that. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

oh thanks, I think I will use the theme you suggested. I am using the Inuit Types. Can you explain me what do I have to activate? I did not find anything about excerpts in it.
Thanks. -
Sorry, I just looked here, I think I prefer the Fusion theme, as you said its design is more customizable. Can you help me with the homepage posts and if you can, teach me how can I put a header in it?
Thanks. -
Your choices for display are found here . Appearance > Theme Options >
look for this:
Display Full Post or Excerpt Archives show:
in the dropdown menu “archives show” choose “excerpts”
Then click “Save changes”You will need to presize and image for the Fusion header before uploading it to get the best image quality. The size required is 980 pixels x 148 pixels. You upload the image here > Dashboard > Appearance > Header

You’re welcome. If you are going to import content from Blogger please go here now and enable this feature. > Dashboard > Settings > Writing > Formatting
___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
Then click “save changes”The instructions for importing your export file containing your Blogger content are found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

Hey sorry for posting again. I did what you said, but it is still not as you said, have a look:
http://imperiodocartola.wordpress.com/I want small images side to side like the foodpress or the other blog I posted as an example.
Thanks. -
Sorry, I just tried and it worked with Inuit Types, but it did not with Fusion. Is there anyway I can make it work with fusion or another theme (which is what I really wanted)?
Thanks, this is urgent. -

Twenty ten is not set up to automatically do that and there is no access to the theme files, so you can’t modify them, and few people have the expertise anyway since they are written in PHP script.
Take a look here at my test blog. Put in some text, inserted a thumbnail image, left aligned, and then used the “read more” tag. That is what you are going to have to do.

Before we go any further, what theme are you wanting to use? I see 2010 and I see Fusion and Timethief mentioned Inuit Types.

I would like to use Fusion, but if I cant do it on fusion, I could use Inuit Types. I wanted to do what I said in the first post.
To understand it better, what is done in these 2 blogs
http://foodpress.com/
http://www.ricaperrone.com.br/In the homepage, with the images and the summary of the post next to it.
Thanks.
