Homepage displaying a menu page

Hi, I’ve been trying sort out my home page for weeks! I can’t figure out why my homepage is not displaying a slideshow. In ‘Pages’ I can see the Front Page and it has a slideshow attached. When I go to view it, the site displays a page called ‘Outside’.

I’m going round in circles! Thanks for any help with this!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there, Cathy!

I do see a slideshow on your homepage. Here’s my view:

Were you able to fix this issue on your own? If you’ve made changes, but cannot see your slideshow, you may need to clear your browser’s cache, and then look again:

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Hi – thanks so much for replying – yes I worked out what was going on, but now have a couple of new questions:

    1. Does my homepage have to be a ‘post’? Can it just be a page? Do you know what I mean? Because if its a post then everytime I update it, it will put a new item up there, and I just want it to stay as a slideshow.

    2. I need to make a new menu item (Blog) and though i’ve found it previously have been going round in circles again.

    3. On my blogpage, how do I get it to look something like the Illustratr demo (with small images. I can’t see anything to do with layout in the dashboard.

    4. Also, on my homepage, I’d really like the whole slideshow to be seen without having to scroll down. And, ideally I’d like to have Cathy Masser smaller (perhaps I need to upgrade to do that) and play around with the layout a little bit.

    Hi,

1: To make your homepage ‘a particular page’; go to ‘customize’ and select ‘static page’ and choose your ‘page’.

2: Making Menus and Custom Menus

3: The Illistratr is also a ‘Portfolio’ theme, which means the front page can be set up in that way. The small images are a ‘preview’ of the portfolio project (more at the link) It also requires at times a certain size image to be uploaded, so check the layout in ‘preview’ mode. Or , alternatively crop and edit them to be all the same size perhaps.

4: I’m sure thatrobyn / the happiness engineer will get back to you.

All the best, and I hope the above helps in your endeavors :)

Hey Sasha — thanks so much for all your good help and advice on this thread :)

cmssr — I’ll address the one issue Sasha didn’t cover:

    4. Also, on my homepage, I’d really like the whole slideshow to be seen without having to scroll down. And, ideally I’d like to have Cathy Masser smaller (perhaps I need to upgrade to do that) and play around with the layout a little bit.

I actually don’t need to scroll down to see the slideshow. This is all dependent on your visitors’ screen and browser size….also, how much they’ve zoomed in. You cannot control their view entirely since there are so many variables.

Regarding the size of your name in the header: You are right. You do need the custom design upgrade in order to change the theme developer’s default settings for the site title. Here is more information about the upgrade:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

Hi there Sasha and Thatrobyn! I’ve been away from my laptop for a couple of days, sorry not to see your responses. Thanks so much for all of your advice: it all sounds very straightforward and I’m looking forward to trying it, hopefully later today.

    Thanks so much again, Cathy
