homepage in regulus

Well I wanted to make some nice layout with some pages. One to tell something about myself, then one with the blog (so when you hit that tab, you go to the blog) and one about university.

The only thing is that “regulus” (by binary moon) already has a starting page. When you hit that, you are redirected to the page that you have set as starting page in your options.

This is a problem, since then you have 2 tabs at the top of the page, linking to the same page, and so, one doesn’t have to be there.

If you don’t get it, look for yourself in my blog. There you see the 2 tabs (“startpagina” and “one day”). The purpose is to get rid of the “startpagina” tab). One note, I never made such a page, and when I search in the edit-page stuf to this page, it can’t find it.

If someone could help me with this, I would be verry thankfull.

I still don’t have a clue how to solve this. I’m not able to adjust the CSS, but it must be possible without big problems. Otherwise this is an error in the designcode or something.

    Anyone?

have you tried going to manage in dashboard, then selecting pages? that’s where your startpagina should be…

did you purchase the css upgrade and tinkle with the css? maybe that might explain the error you described, which in that case you have to fix your css. (i’m not really sure about this as i know nuts about css, sad to say.)

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t have the CSS upgrade, so I did nothing wrong with that.

The problem is that “startpagina” doesn’t exist. It doesn’t show up and I can’t find it anywhere. It’s like the “index.html” file. I think that it is impossible to change that, since your site always need an index.html.

Only way to solve it, is that I can call the “one day” page “index.html” and remove that tab. Then again, I don’t have the CSS upgrade.

if you didn’t purchase any css upgrade, then there shouldn’t be a problem with your tabs. did you try my first suggestion?

if you can’t locate startpagina in manage pages, perhaps you could report it to feedback so the support team can have a look.

Yes, I have tried. Here is a screenshot where the problem shows itself:

The page “startpagina” doesn’t show up there, so I can’t delete it.

sorry for the troubles cause it is in dutch

  • Unknown's avatar

i learned beginner’s dutch for a semester (prettig met u kennis te maken!); i recognised some words. ;)

ok, despite my limited knowledge, i’m almost sure this is a problem for the support team. send feedback and the wp team will help you solve it, because they’re the only one who can help with the “back-end” stuff.

  • Unknown's avatar

thank you for your efforts. This is a weird problem, I will try the feedback

  • Unknown's avatar

If someone else has problems with this, here is the answer from the feedback:

    “Hi,
I’m sorry but that theme has that tab which cannot be removed.
Unless someone in the forum has an idea I cannot help.

This has happened because the Home page feature came after the blog designs we use.

    Sorry.

    Mark”

    So anyone an idea?

  • Unknown's avatar

I believe that css customization may be the only way to eliminate the page.

  • Unknown's avatar

Then again, CSS only works for layout, so adding/deleting something isn’t possible with some changes in the css code. It is actually a whole page/link that has to be erased from the map.
I could change it if I could adjust (X)HTML here at wordpress.com, but then again, this isn’t possible.

Getting wordpress.org is a solution, but now that I’m in the examination period it isn’t a great idea. Just writing each day to my blog does take some time.

I thought that through the use of css one might be able to “suppress” or “over-ride” this. I’m sorry that it can’t be done.
    Edit:
BTW and for interest sake only, I note that there is an example of a self hosted blog using a customization of the Regulus theme. You’ll find it here http://www.ptvguy.com/

perhaps you can contact the creator of regulus and see if he can help you solve your problem. refer him to this thread so he has a better idea what’s going on especially in regards to mark’s reply.

    last resort, change themes!

  • Unknown's avatar

Actually, I don’t think there’s nothing that can be done by just changing the CSS code. In fact, that would be a task for staff because of the way the php code of the theme handles the ‘home’ page. However, I don’t think staff would do it because it’s something trivial – and I’m not saying this in a mean way.

Take for instance other themes. When you click on the blog name, or the header, they will take you to the home page, that’s because of how the theme was coded. Regulus, instead of having the header or the blog name link to the main page, is doing it through the “home” tab.

    My two cents.

  • Unknown's avatar

problem solved. I have chosen another theme (Neat!) and did some photoshopping to make my own tabs in a sidebar text.

WoW! Nice blog and good job on the page buttons. Love the header. :)
