Homepage issue
-
Hi,
I am new to all of this, like many at the moment I am sure. I am trying to set up my website. After messing about with a couple of different themes for a while and publishing a few versions of my homescreen I have completely confused myself.I deleted all of the pages on my site. There are none. However, when I visit my site a page is still there. I am now ready to create and publish a page but when I do so the original page remains the active one and I cannot find it to remove it.
I am happy to start from scratch (but obviously do not want to give up my website and domain etc) if someone could explain how I would fix this though, I would be very grateful
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi –
What page do you want to have displayed as the front of the site? That’s the first thing folks see when they load the site in their browsers.
Keep in mind that the business plan you’ve bought comes with 24/7 live chat support. That’s always going to be the fastest way to get help with these questions via https://wordpress.com/help/contact/

I have my own homepage issue. It’s taken a long time to locate this forum. How does one delete text data in the form of URLs from the dropdown menus under: Customize-Homepage Settings? There are now needless URLs on the title page. hahaha Thanks so much.

Thanks, but, that doesn’t help much with the specific issue facing me!
There was no “direct” help either using Google, Yahoo nor Duckduckgo. I’m a senior citizen, so often these technical issues swamp over us. It’s like looking for the taskbar click-on *words” with the new block editor, rather than the ole familiar Classic editor toolbar, with easy to click on format changes.
I’d pay for a custom site as I did throughout 2010 – 2015, i.e., when my money tree was still alive and thriving. hahaha

@johnotvos, when you log into your account, go to My Site>Design>Customize>Menus.
There you will see all menus that you have created. If you click on Categories, you will notice a menu that displays different categories that you’ve created on your site. To display that menu on your site, you will want to set it up as your primary menu:The link that @supernovia shared, will help you to further customize your menu but, if you have any more questions, I’ll be happy to clarify.
I hope that helps :)

Thanks again for looking at my comment query here in this forum. I worked through it reordering some of the items in my Category drop-down menu and yes, I clicked on “save changes”. Alas, to no avail, as nothing changed as the order of the categories remain the same as before this exercise. But, it’s not the categories that are the issue! It’s the superfluous URL’s posted at the top of the home page.

Q: Delete or cleanup content in HomePage Settings under the following: Appearance-Customize-
- HomePage Settings
. How does one remove the extraneous mistaken text?

I think I have not explained myself well. What appears on top of your site is the menu. You need to create a custom menu to display what you want there.
If you do not choose any menu, you will see there links to all your pages and if you check your pages and their titles, you will understand why the long links appear there:https://wordpress.com/pages/johnotvos.wordpress.com
You may edit the pages and change their titles or, you can customize you menu as explained in this video:
https://wordpress.com/support/menus/
See what happens when I choose your primary menu in the customizer:

Thanks so much. The fix was even simpler. All I did was click on the unwanted link URL at the top, click on “edit”
- for that page
, then scroll to the bottom of the sidebar and click on trash. I did this for all 3 of my menu mistakes and it’s now back to the way it was.
Thanks again.
