Homepage issue with logo positioning
-

our logo in the landing page has a big gap so when you go to edit we can’t move our logo up the page. Basically we don’t want people to have to scroll down our page. Another issue is if we try to remove the header to move the logo to the top of the page it auto edits the wording to “no text”, very frustrating. Any help much appreciated as it makes the page look amateur with its current “sky ferry logo half way down the page that’s especially noticeable on the desktop version.
thanks, “Rob”.

Hi there Rob, here’s what the theme’s Showcase page says about the logo:
Adding Your Logo
If your site has a logo, you can display it in your site’s header. Here’s how:
- From your site’s dashboard, use the left-hand menu to navigate to Appearance→ Customize. Inside the customizer, click on the Site Identity tab.
- Click the Add logo button to open the Media Manager.
- Upload a new image, or select one that’s already in your Media Library.
- Click Set as logo and you’ll see your logo appear in the preview.
- If your logo includes your site’s name or you prefer the header only to display your logo, you can hide the site title by unchecking the box next to Display Site Title.
- Click the Save Changes button on top to save your changes.
Your logo will appear to the left of the site title on desktop computers, and above the Site Title on mobile devices

However, even on my PC the logo is appearing at the top center of the page. Did you add your logo through the Customizer or directly on the page itself?

It sounds like the theme or page builder you’re using has a fixed header or padding issue. Try checking the header settings or customizer for logo margin/padding controls. If you’re using a block editor or page builder (like Elementor), you may need to adjust the section spacing manually.
Also, instead of removing the header, try using a transparent header option if your theme supports it — that way, the logo can sit higher without breaking the layout.
Happy to help further if you can share which theme or builder you’re using!

Hey there @skyferryfltplan the information in the above reply from rosedane810 is not relevant for your free WordPress.com website. Follow the instructions given on the theme’s showcase page, which I listed in my earlier reply.
If you still need help with this or have more questions after following those theme instructions, feel free to post back here.

Hi @skyferryfltplan,
I took a look at your site and noticed that the logo size appears to be fine now, so it seems the issue has been resolved.
If the issue is still persisting, please note that the Geologist theme you’re using is a Full Site Editing (FSE) theme. This means you’ll need to add or edit your logo from the Site Editor, not from the Customizer. You can follow the step-by-step guide below to add or edit your logo:
https://wordpress.com/support/site-logo/#add-your-logo
If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please let us know.

Hi @adusman I might have misunderstood but Geologist is one of the earliest block themes that still supports the Customizer. The quote I gave above concerning the logo is from the theme’s Showcase page. https://wordpress.com/theme/geologist and the Customizer is available in this theme.
If that information is outdated, then kindly let the folks who handle the theme showcase descriptions know so they can update it. TIA

thank you to all for the replies. We did successfully manage to move the logo. However we still seem to have the issue that when you go onto the homepage the text is somewhat down the page when it should be more towards the top, it only gives us the option of editing a header, so there is still quite a large gap. When you go onto the homepage between where you see the top of the page with the options and then the gap before the main text starts. We will be adding/updating the page at some point shortly.however, I have found that the interface is quite user unfriendly.
if you are viewing the site on a mobile telephone or tablet, it’s not quite as bad, but if you view it on the desktop the gap is still quite large. It is a little frustrating, but I will be dedicating most of tomorrow to resolving these issue and adding a further employee/team page.
The main issue appears to be with the homepage, and of course one solution is to upgrading to a better package, which includes Support directly from WordPress, however, again, the replies and suggestions have been most welcomed.

Following on,, here is how it looks now. Logo sorted but still a big gap on the desktop version, not great on iPad either. It won’t let me move the image / text up.

Hello again, there seems to be 2 Spacer blocks there: the first in the Header that is adding 60 pixels of vertical space below the top navigation and the second one adding another 60 pixels of vertical space between the Header and the next piece of content on that page.
You can edit the Header by going to https://skyferryinc.wordpress.com/wp-admin/site-editor.php?p=%2Fpattern&postType=wp_template_part&categoryId=all-parts and selecting “header.” That will open the Site Editor where you can reduce the height of that Spacer block after selecting it in the List view. Changing that block’s setting will change it everywhere that header appears on your site. I would not recommend removing it entirely. Remember to save your changes.
As for the second 60 pixels additional vertical space, can you say how you created that page? Is it possible you added another Spacer block either to the Header or the content itself?
Aside/The first image on that page is overly small and look pixelated.

The full link to your theme’s Template Parts in my above reply didn’t come through. Here it is again:

thank you for that, we are making progress, almost 80% of people first see their websites on a mobile device which is looking okay now and especially we have the logo sorted out now.
I have one further question to ask and will leave you all in peace and quiet. We deleted the contact us page which was showing in our gallery under a separate link. However, we took the liberty of saving it and then added it as a new page on our desktop computer which has Wi-Fi and tried to upload it into the menu settings it’s showing as published but it’s not showing in the menu. I then went onto Jetpack in our iPhone app off my cellular phone data and tried adding it, and it is showing as published, but not in the drop down menu. Figure one below shows the new page (part-of) and figure 2 shows the issue. I tried clearing the cache, logging in and logging out and we still can’t add the contact us page with our full contact details which is coming extremely difficult.
in short I can’t add a new page into the menu drop down despite it showing as published, basically a new page that can be viewed from the homepage?
the headache continues…. 🤬

- In Customize → Additional CSS, set header.site-header { margin-top: 0; padding-top: 0; }
- In Site Identity, turn off Display Site Title and Tagline so the logo moves to the top
I got the same error on my client site and by this my problem solved.

@faha71519 Custom CSS can be added to sites on the WordPress.com Premium plan and up. Regardless, the issue of the logo placement is resolved.
@skyferryfltplan Rob As long as that Page has been published, you may need to manually add the page back in the Customer>Menu or Appearance>Menu. https://skyferryinc.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php
Here’s more info https://wordpress.com/support/menus/add-links-to-a-menu/
I’m going to be away from my keyboard for quite a while, but if you have other questions about this, I’m sure one of the other volunteers will be able to help. Cheers.
