Homepage looks for login credentials when accessing it from a public network

I was trying to view a potential client’s WordPress.com blog yesterday from a public network in a hotel foyer and was met by a screen seeking login credentials. When accessing the website from my phone as well as office network there is no problem and the proper homepage comes up.

Is there some security setting or anything else that might be causing this? And more importantly, that can be switched off?!

    Thank you for any suggestions.
