Homepage meta description "(by blogname)" at end
-
Hello,
I know that the meta description for the homepage is automatically set to the content of the tagline. However, I’ve noticed that it also adds “(by blogname)” to the end (or maybe “by author”, I’m not sure since mine are both the same), so in my case it’s adding “(by Simple Home Recording)” to the end of my meta description. I know we aren’t able to manually edit any of the meta tags, but is there any way to get WordPress to drop that “(by ____)” part from it? It just seems redundant to me since the title of my blog/homepage (and thus the meta title tag) is already “Simple Home Recording”, and it truncates my description when shown in the search results (it looks like “blah blah blah (by Simple Home …” but would be just about perfect length without the added bit).
Of course, I know that almost all search queries will be landing on individual posts and not the homepage, and the search result will show the query and the text around it in the description field, but it still bothers me to have the homepage doing that…I’m a little OCD. :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes.
1. Switch to using a theme that is not designed to display an author byline.
(a) themes created up to December 2011 http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/08/15/author-displayed-or-not/
themes created from January 2012 through July 2014
(b) http://danielgreene.com/2014/07/20/blog-2014-free-wordpress-themes-that-show-author-bylines/2. Purchase an upgrade and do the required CSS editing to hide it. See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable custom and CSS editing:

Thanks for the info!
Fortunately, I do have the Custom Design upgrade, but unfortunately, your second link seems to indicate that I can’t get rid of it in the HTML. It says “It is always there in the HTML; whether it is displayed or hidden is an effect of CSS that makes up the theme.”
Oh well, no big deal. Plus, I did use some CSS code I found in the comments of the first link to get rid of the byline in individual blog posts (since that’s redundant as well because I am the only author), so that’s still an improvement. :)

No we cannot access and edit the underlying php or HTML because our blogs share a common architecture. That is to say that all blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template so only Staff have that access.
