Homepage Posts Order
-
Hi,
On my homepage the posts are not listed in chronological order. I would want them to be the normal Newest to Oldest, and they are all random. When I click on categories they are in that correct order. I do not see anywhere how to fix this on admin, could someone help me?
Thanks,
MadelineThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you have made any posts “sticky” you will have to edit and remove that post visibility designation. Have you tried that?
Go to https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/
and scroll down to https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts -
Good point, I made one post sticky because I wanted it on the slider. I was wondering why it wouldn’t let me make a new posts sticky. I want all of my most recent posts on the slider at the top of that is supposed to be in the forever theme. How do I get the slider up and going on my blog?
-
Consult the detailed theme description page https://wordpress.com/themes/forever with set-up instructions and the live demo site here https://foreverdemo.wordpress.com/
Featuring posts in a slider on your home page is easy. You just need sticky posts with Featured Images. Every sticky post you have (up to 10) that has a Featured Image (at least 888 pixels wide) attached will show up there. Easy!

a) Followed your link and went to edit my post but there isn’t anywhere anymore that stays “sticky” no way to take it off
b) Right so see it says you do need sticky posts to put them in the slider. Not sure how to know how wide my image is- would I have to edit beforehand to make it that wide? -
The dimensions of all featured images are critical to their display. If the dimensions are not what the specs state they will not display.
I just discovered that this link to the detailed theme description page https://wordpress.com/themes/forever with set-up instructions produces a not found situation so I tagged this thread for Staff support.

Hi @goodemadeline, ah this is an older theme that was just recently retired. I’d recommend using this one instead:
https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/toujours/
It’s very similar, and beautifully updated.
If you’d rather stick with Forever, let me know and I’ll see if I can find the specs for you. Generally speaking, these days, I’d recommend uploading your images 2x bigger than you’ll need to display them (so roughly 2000px wide and proportionately tall). That way they’ll probably continue to work in other themes / on retina / etc.
Cheers! And thanks @timetheif, we’ll see if we can fix that link.

@supernovia
When answering questions it would be extremely helpful for Volunteers to have a link to a list of newly retired themes. Apparently this one is outdated now. Will you please prompt Themes Staff to provide a retired themes list and link to it? -
@supernovia I will look at the new version. I still cannot get my blog feature photos on the slider- they are marked sticky, and i have edited the images as much as i can to be the right size. when i am in admin media and try to edit the image, i cannot go larger than probably 700px wide or so. how do i make it bigger? i try to edit and stretch, hold down shift with the ratio of 12″5, and it does not get close enough to even 100px. That was a big selling point for me on this type of theme, to have the slider of the latest posts. Need it.
Also, since I’ve edited the featured images to look like slider size, they also are that size on the homepage when you scroll down to see the latest posts. That looks odd and I would like them not to be so odd proportionally.Thank you

I’m not sure whether I’ve got one, @timethief, but I’ll check around on that. This case was a bit tricky because the theme had just been retired that day.
Normally users won’t see retired themes when they’re setting up their sites.

Hi @goodemadeline, here we go:
https://theme.wordpress.com/retired/forever/
“Every sticky post you have (up to 10) that has a Featured Image that’s at least 888 pixels wide will be displayed in the slider.”
Is there any way you can choose larger pictures for the featured images on these posts? You could “zoom in” on smaller images then get screenshots to make them bigger, but they end up being really poor quality.
