Homepage with category-wise grid layout

    Hi,

    I’d like to create a homepage that displays blog posts as a category-wise grid, with the only the latest post under each category showing.

    For example, I’d like to have a 4×4 grid of the categories ‘beaches’, ‘mountains’, ‘deserts’ and ‘wildlife’, and would like only the latest post under each to be displayed.

    Is that possible?

    I’ve seen themes that display all posts in a grid by default when the homepage is set to Posts. Wondering if that could be customized…

    Would appreciate any advice on this!

    Hi irfanquader,

    By default, the Solar theme provides an option to switch to a gridded layout. However, this displays all posts in that format, regardless of which category they are in. There are a couple of ways you could approach adding a 4×4 grid containing the latest post from each category:

    1. Makes these changes using a child theme
    2. Look at using the Gutenberg plugin
    3. Use a page builder plugin — you can search for one from the Plugins area

    If you don’t want to create a child theme, Gutenberg or a page builder plugin will be your best bet.

    Thanks for your reply! Since I’m not entirely sure how to work with child themes, I’ll take a shot at using the plugins and see if that works.

    Hi gemmacevans and kokkieh,

    Thanks for your help and advice. I thought I’d let you know that I’ve managed to do this with the SiteOrigins page builder plug-in, using their ‘post loop’ widget. I haven’t published the page yet because I’m still experimenting, but just thought I’d let you know in case someone else comes up with the same query.
