Hook wp_get_archives

    In archive.php i coded a way to display archived posts from a specific category by providing a GET variable.
    It works when i put it manually in the URL, but currently i use wp_get_archives() to get the archives by month.
    Would it be possible to hook wp_get_archives() in functions.php to always append ?cat=X to the URL generated?
