Horizontal scrolling

Im trying to set up a gallery of images side by side with horizontal scrolling. I’d also like to switch the colors of my menu bar, text, and pages (I have already tried the ‘customize colors’ tab under theme options and it is very limited as to what colors i can edit. Also would like to remove the title, caption, image size info, and comment boxes at the bottom of each image when being viewed in wordpress’ carousel feature. (I have already tried unchecking the ‘allow comments’ on every single page and they still appear). Every single CSS or html code that i have inserted into the HTML editing section on ‘pages’ does not work.. Is it impossible to achieve these edits with the free version? Also, has anyone achieved the horizontal scrolling with plugins? How time consuming is editing with plug-ins for a beginner with not much code experience? I want to upgrade but I have no idea what I’d be purchasing since there is no free trial. Help, thanks.

Thank you for choosing WordPress.com for making your site. The free plan only offers the very basic so you won’t be able to modify and customize the looks of your page without the CSS feature that is only available with the Premium and Business plan.
However, the only alternative solution you can do that might help in the free version is look for other free themes that suit the design or look that you’re going for.
You can look at all of our plans and decide if a ‘Premium’ or ‘Business’ plan is best suited for you.
Also, like you mentioned we don’t have a free trial however if you’re not happy with the plan that you purchased. We can always give you a refund within 30 days of that purchase.
