Horizontal social media buttons in sidebar

  I followed these instructions. http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-social-media-buttons-to-your-sidebar-or-footer/
  I now have great looking icons on my page but they are vertical rather than horizontal as promised in the tutorial. I must have missed something. Help!!
