Horrific cascading nightmare

I don’t really know where to start.

I just wanted to build a WooCommerce site. Thought I’d upload a template, so I bought a 3rd party template I liked. Then I was told I couldn’t use it unless I upgraded to paid. So I paid.

Installed the template, then was told that I needed some additional plugins. Installed them. Then started getting errors everywhere.

I asked live chat support and it said I needed hosting. I thought the hosting was included in the subscription fee I paid. But apparently it’s not, so I went and got hosting and installed WP on it.

The error screen had a link to a troubleshooting guide which said something about deactivating the plugins, so I did that via PHPMyAdmin, since almost everywhere lead to the white screen of death.

Then I realized I should be getting emails with more information about the error, but I’m not. Tried to look up how to fix that, and it said to download WP SMTP. Tried to do that, and now I can’t download any plugins.

I honestly don’t know what to do at this point, any help is much appreciated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey there,

Thanks for reaching out, and it looks like we need to clear up some confusion…

Installed the template, then was told that I needed some additional plugins. Installed them. Then started getting errors everywhere.

It looks like the Botiga theme is installed and it looks like the plugin: mipro-core was causing the error messages. I’ve deactivated mipro-core for you for the time being to solve that error message.

I asked live chat support and it said I needed hosting. I thought the hosting was included in the subscription fee I paid. But apparently it’s not, so I went and got hosting and installed WP on it.

I want to double check this – who/where did you ask this? The reason being is that Yes, hosting is included on all plans on WordPress, and you wouldn’t need to install anything from the get go.

I suspect there may be doubling up of purchases on a different provider, so I’d like to clear this up.

so I did that via PHPMyAdmin, since almost everywhere lead to the white screen of death.

Then I realized I should be getting emails with more information about the error, but I’m not. Tried to look up how to fix that, and it said to download WP SMTP. Tried to do that, and now I can’t download any plugins.

I’ve not come across the WSD thus far, and on WordPress.com – you wouldn’t use PHP MyAdmin to deactivate plugins….

It looks like you have a site with https://woocommerce.com/express/, to check, are you looking to use the domain: yaummati.com with this site?

Lastly, can you tell me more about the store you’re looking to build and is there a site out there you’re looking to emulate? We can provide some next steps on getting you set up.

    Many thanks!

Hey, thanks for being so helpful.

It looks like the Botiga theme is installed and it looks like the plugin: mipro-core was causing the error messages. I’ve deactivated mipro-core for you for the time being to solve that error message.

I tried restoring from a backup from a few days ago to fix the issue and it got better, but still not perfect. I switched to the Botiga theme but I’m still getting the white screen when I do almost anything in the console, including click “Home,” or try to set up WP SMTP.

I want to double check this – who/where did you ask this? The reason being is that Yes, hosting is included on all plans on WordPress, and you wouldn’t need to install anything from the get go.

I thought it was on wordpress.com but it’s possible I mistakenly went to wordpress.org. Anyway, I cancelled the other hosting plan so thanks for that.

It looks like you have a site with https://woocommerce.com/express/, to check, are you looking to use the domain: yaummati.com with this site?

I’m actually trying to migrate a site that I had on Shopify but I wanted to build the site before setting it up with the URL because I don’t want to disrupt my SEO. The other site is just a general blog.

Lastly, can you tell me more about the store you’re looking to build and is there a site out there you’re looking to emulate? We can provide some next steps on getting you set up.

It’s just a basic ecommerce site. I’m not trying to do anything fancy, just a clean minimal look. I really liked the demo for Mipro, that’s why I was trying to install it, but it’s not going well so far.

Still getting “There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions. Learn more about troubleshooting WordPress.” everywhere, and not getting the emails to explain more about it.

  • I had a look at your site before you canceled it, and it seemed like there was a lot of plugin/theme interference causing issues :(

If you’d like to try again, there are a few different options to go about it (you can use WooCommerce here, on WordPress.com too). We’ll be happy to help you find the best one but for that, we’d need to learn more about your goals.

You mentioned migrating a site from Shopify, is this your end goal for the e-commerce site? Will you be adding some demo content before migrating the products from Shopify, or was your idea to move the content but only connect the domain when you’re ready?

Which e-commerce features are a must-have?  Do you plan on selling and shipping physical goods or digital products?
