My site is down and I’m not sure why. What is the dns addresses for wordpress

  • Hi, could you send a link to the page you’re having trouble with?

If you have a separate host, please note these forums are for the sites hosted and managed here at WordPress.com:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

For help with an individual WordPress installation you’re running with another host, you’ll want to use the correct forums:

    Bluefincharters.net.

I just tried to switch a previous host who was terrible. I want to go back to what I had in 2012 or 2013. I can see my website at bluefincharters.wordpress.com.But bluefincharters.net is saying no server. Hover is my domain supplier. I called them and they put in WordPress as dns. 1,2,3. What should I put in for host dns. ?
    Thank you.

  • I can see my website at bluefincharters.wordpress.com.But bluefincharters.net is saying no server.

That’s because those are two different sites. The domain, bluefincharters.net, is at the moment pointing to our servers on WordPress.com, but that domain has never been connected to the site at bluefincharters.wordpress.com, or any other site on WordPress.com for that matter.

Going by historic DNS records at https://securitytrails.com/domain/bluefincharters.net/history/ns, you’ve been hosting that domain at Comcast’s hosting service since June 2013, so that’s likely who you need to contact for help getting the site you had at that domain back online.

Ok thanks. I understand. I don’t want the bluefincharters.net site to be used anymore. I want to use the original WordPress site. The guy made up a completely new site using my domain. My question is can I just forget about that site and direct bluefincharters.net to my wordpress site? I use Hover as my domain. I’ve talked with them and they asked me what the dns information for WordPress. They will put the info in. I own bluefincharters.net. But the guy won’t give me any information. I’m tired of his charades. If I can’t do anything do I have to change my domain name in order to use you “Wordpress”?

  • can I just forget about that site and direct bluefincharters.net to my wordpress site?

Yes, you can use your domain with the site you created on WordPress.com, you’ll want to map it.

Here are detailed instructions on how to do that:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Please note that you’ll need any of our paid plans in order to map or transfer a custom domain.

Let me know if you have any more questions regarding that.

I contacted hover and this is what they said:

    Hi David,

    Thanks for contacting Hover.

We would not hear from WordPress directly, you would need to reach out to them to confirm the nameservers are correct and mapped properly on their side with the proper DNS records.

Have you reached out to WordPress yet?

Please contact WordPress so that we can see what they’d like us to do on our end to get your domain pointing to the website you have with them.

    Regards,”

    I’m caught between!!!!🤪🤪🤪

  • Ah sorry to hear it, @bluefincharters. Since the existing Comcast site is down, I’d recommend logging into Hover and specifying these name servers:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

That will take a few hours (usually 4-6 hours, sometimes significantly less or more) to take effect. And then be sure to buy a plan as well:
    https://wordpress.com/plan

You can also choose to transfer the domain here or keep it at Hover. That’s totally up to you. It’s $18/year here, but you get the first year free.

Let us know if you need more help!

Thank you for replying . I just bought a $95 plan a few days ago at WordPress. Isn’t that what I bought ? If not what did I buy? If it isn’t correct what should I do? I will contact hover and give them with the servers info.

  • Yes, the transfer was included with your plan so, no worries. Looks like you’re all set now? The domain was successfully transferred here and it’s loading your WordPress.com site.

To learn more about your Premium plan, you can have a look at this page:
