Host an existing domain name with WordPress
-
A few years ago, when I knew even less about domain names than I do now (which isn’t saying much), I decided to register my name – I don’t even know why I did it the way I did, but I think I registered it through Yahoo. Somehow, it’s in the dropdown box of my blogs in WordPress. I don’t even know how to access it ;o( Anyway, I’d like to host it with WordPress (I’m not sure if I’m using the correct language – sorry!). How can I switch?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.COM is not able to accept incoming domain transfers. If you already have a domain and you want to use it with your WordPress.com site, follow the instructions for mapping an existing domain to your WordPress.com blog. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
After you make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Thank you for the quick reply. Yahoo is expensive and I don’t want to use them any more. What do I do – let it lapse, then re-register it? (Sorry, but this is confusing.)

I have the exact same question. Except my domain name is hosted by iPage. I don’t want to renew with them, I’d rather pay WordPress to hold it for me, but I am afraid of losing my domain name in the interim.

There are several domain name Registrars that will accept domain name transfers if you don’t link your current Registrar – typical fees for a plain .COM registration runs $10 to $ 14 / year – that is with no hosting – I have a couple of friends that use Name Cheap and so far so good – but they are not the only one out there – also most hosts will continue to register your domain name at a reduced cost if you no longer host with them –
