host and wordpress

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

So I’m EXTREMELY new to the world of blogging. I had signed up for wordpress and tried to start making my page which I’m finding very confusing. The more research I did, I found out I needed a webhost so I signed up with bluehost. I did this after I had created this account. I’m also having difficulty with bluehost now even logging in. Will the fact that I already created this account with this domain name on my page stop me from linking it to bluehost once I get the login for bluehost all sorted out?

    Pleas help! ha

    Best,
    Kelly

  • Hi Kelly,

I think you may have confused yourself even more with whatever you found in your research. First, the WordPress universe is divided into 2 parts. One part is WordPress.com and the other is WordPress.org. You started here, on WordPress.com when you signed up for your kellyscompass.wordpress.com address. Here at WordPress.com, you don’t have to download software, pay for hosting, or manage a web server. You just design your site using the tools provided and start blogging.

The other part of the WordPress universe is self-hosting, wherein you sign up with a host provider who will house all of your content on their servers, but you are responsible for every detail of your site, from installing WordPress and a theme and managing all of the pieces and parts of that theme.

Given that you are new to blogging, I would suggest that you stick with WordPress.com and wait until you have developed some expertise (for free) before getting involved with self-hosting.

These links should give you some more information:

It looks like you’re off to a good start. I would also suggest that you peruse the Support pages here. They provide a wealth of fantastic information that will help you to be far less confused and get you moving in the right direction.

    Good luck!
