Host File
-
Hi All.
Im using an edited host file (win10) to block out unwanted ads etc… I recently updated from wordpress 2.2.0 to 2.4.0 and since doing so i have not been abled to access wordpress via the desktop app. I know this is to do with an entry in my host file beucase when i remove the host the app will run. Now i have 15k+ entries and this will take me forever to find out which is blocking the app. Does anyone have a list of what dns’s wordpress are using? or even know what has changed since v2.2.0
I have tried removing these
#0.0.0.0 wordpresscom.skimlinks.com
#0.0.0.0 botd2.wordpress.com #[WebBug]
#0.0.0.0 botd.wordpress.com #[WebBug]
#0.0.0.0 stats.wordpress.comThank for any input

Hello @memoriesareforlife,
Looks like your site is not hosted on WordPress.COM. And also, it is using the WordPress.ORG software package. You have posted your issue in the wrong forum. This forum only supports the sites hosted on WordPress.COM and not elsewhere.
Both(WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG) are different products. You can find out the differences between them here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
To get help, please post your question on the WordPress.ORG support forum: https://wordpress.org/support/
We are really sorry that we cannot help even tough we want to. Hope you issue gets resolved ASAP.
Thanks!

For all other WordPress.ORG and config files related issues, please post your question on the WordPress.ORG forum: https://wordpress.org/support/, as mentioned before.

thank you for responding. I dont think you read my OP correctly. I have had wordpress.com app connected to my wordpress.org site up until v 2.2.0 I recently update app to v2.4.0 and now cannot access my site. Now if i remove my Host file C:WindowsSystem32driversetc) and launch wordpress.com i connect as normal. So something in my host file is blocking WordPress.com. So this is why id like to know what dns wordpress are using?

@memoriesareforlife ahh! okay… i got a little confused since your OP did not say “WordPress App” so i thought you are referring to WordPress.ORG. Sorry about that.
Well in that case check your host file to see if it contains this:
127.0.0.1 wordpress.com
If it does remove that.re: WordPress DNS
I am tagging this thread for staff attention. Maybe they can help you with this. Thanks!

Hi,
I have tried all the common
0.0.0.0 wordpress.com
0.0.0.0 wordpresscom.skimlinks.com
0.0.0.0 botd2.wordpress.com #[WebBug]
0.0.0.0 botd.wordpress.com #[WebBug]
0.0.0.0 stats.wordpress.comAbove are the ones i have removed but with no lock. They must have a list of DNS they are using. With that i would be abled to removed what is blocking the app.
Thank for your input.

Hi there,
I’ve reached out to a developer to find out if anything has changed which would affect the app in this way. I’ll let you know if I hear back from them.

I’ve heard back from a developer about this.
We use to many IPs to provide them all to you but he suggests you look at any entries referencing localhost. The port number used by Calypso in the desktop app is http://127.0.0.1:41050
Also, blocking these two IPs will definitely prevent the app from working:
192.0.78.22
192.0.78.23
What exactly do you mean by the app doesn’t work? Does it fail on a particular screen or give a specific error message? That might better enable us to figure out what’s causing it.
