Host Gator SSL
-
Hello, I am trying to set up an SSL on my website. I am using HostGator to host my WordPress domain. I have read that WordPress offers free SSL Certificates to all users through LetsEncrypt. I can not figure out how to activate my LetsEncrypt SSL through HostGator, and their support staff was not able to give me any reccomendations. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Hi,
WordPress.com automatically install SSL certificates from Let’s Encrypt on all WordPress.com sites. So you don’t have to do it. Read more at –
https://en.support.wordpress.com/https-ssl/In case you are using a self-hosted WordPress website, you can contact your host for SSL plans or you can install it for free with Let’s Encrypt.
Read this blog post to install SSL for free on your WordPress website – https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/adding-free-ssl-https-wordpress/
Do let me know if you have more queries.

Thank you for your help. The website that I’m using to host my domain does not provide built-in Let’sEncrypt support, so I went to the certbot website. These were the steps suggested in the article that you posted. Certbot said that I needed to use the command line in my administrative shell in order to install the SSL. I am not familiar with those terms, can you please tell me what my next step should be?

Sorry for the confusion here. It looks like you have a self-hosted WordPress.org site. This forum is strictly for WordPress.com hosted sites.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are a little separate, and that can be confusing.
You’ll want to use the forums at https://wordpress.org/support/ for any support on matters outside of WordPress.com hosting. Hope that helps to point you in the right direction!
